Anyone up for a JK Arena Level Pack?
2005-06-02, 2:43 AM #1
I drew up 3 cool ideas for JK Arena levels. The nice thing about designing for JK Arena is that the levels are relatively small and can be built in a matter of days instead of weeks or months. I want to put together a pack about the size of the previous one (10 levels or so). If there's enough interest maybe we should hold a contest. What do you think?

Oh, in case you never heard of it: http://www.massassi.net/jkarena/

I would be, but I haven't used JED in over a year. :(

I would make one. I'd have to learn how to implement the JKA cogs but that wouldn't take too long.

Last time this came up, I started work on a curvier remake of the level I was working on for the original pack.

I still have that on my computer, but I don't have much time to edit. I could have a go though. What sort of timescale are you thinking?

I don't suppose I could enter mine even though it's already under way, could I?

I have one level of my own that its close to completion, plus 2 of Detty's and one of GoY's that I'm supposed to finish for them.

Those look cool, I remember beta testing them. I especially liked the one with the canyon oasis textures, it was really fun.

How about a JK Arena pack that really shows the capablities of the Sith engine? Like, prehaps use 16 bit textures instead of 8 bit? Use more neat effects and lighting? Computers today are more capable than 7 years ago.

I'm not really saying 8-bit textures are terrible or the maps look bland though, maybe raise the bar higher for a level pack so many years after the game's release?

The nice thing about JK is that even people on older computers can still play it. I was talking to someone in #massassi a while ago and he had just upgraded to a voodoo2! Effects are cool, but IMO putting 16bit mats is not a great idea. OF COURSE you're not prohibited from releasing your own JK Arena level or level pack that includes 16 bit mats. Also, you can release a 16 bit mat pack separately so people can use the 8 bit or 16 bit version (mada did that for one of the massassi level packs I think).

Heck, I'd be up for it. Maybe we could do a Episode III JKA map pack? lol:o

I'd be willing to make a small Jedi Academy duel level, if anything.

I told the kids I'd take them, but then they went with their REAL dad. I also wanted to wait till the crowds died down. I'll probably see it this weekend.

Heh.. Kinda funny to see this thread. I was feeling all nostalgic about JK Editing only a few days ago as I was putting together the Projects page on my website. I have some cool ideas, so if this goes ahead, someone let me know.

I'm up for it. I've wanted to open up JED again. It's been 3 years now, I need to see if I still got it.

I'd attempt to submit a level if a contest was held.

Hmm...I might give this a shot.

(If anybody wants help with cogging, look for help in #jkhub, or contact me directly.)

Brian! Sign me up, I already have a level ready! I just need to implement the Arena cogs and implement a waiting room. But other then that, my level is set and ready to go.

I will have at least one submission. I've nearly finished the level I have shown on the Hub.
