WOW
so I got my Athlon 64 3000+ today... Venice core (couldn't afford the SanDiego... and really, A64's don't need 1MB of L2 cache the way that a P4 does heh)

WOW is about all i can say. i'm doing the usual burn in... about to start temp monitoring to make sure it's steady. used the stock cooler with Arctic Silver 5 and it seems to be running very smoothly so far :D

Yes... I know all about having huge processing capabilities and pitiful graphical ones... I was stuck with a GeForce 2 on my AMD 3400+ system for about four months last year...

i don't mean it just doesn't need the 1MB... i mean it doesn't need it like a P4 does.
you get major performance increases in A64's without pumping the cache up... P4s increase performance by pumping the cache

i'm running at 39 C (~102 F) right now... i guess that's pretty good?

what temps do you guys get ?

My 2800 is currently idling at 34 C. It can get up to 40 playing games.

Course there's over a pound and a half of copper strapped to it...

That's great. Most CPUs get around 40-50 stock in the 64 line with proper cooling.

Mine gets I think something like 24C Idle, 35C load when both fans are running. I need another splitter for my PSU though :(

mine runs at about 40-45 idle, and around 50-60 when gaming. overclocked the 2500 to a 3200 and im still using the stock hsf.

compared to all your cpu temps, mine's like lava :-P

I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3200+...How do i overclock it?
2005-06-03, 4:58 AM #13
check your BIOS or google it, Tempermental.

looks like Arctic Silver 5 is living up to it's predecessors... average temp has dropped a couple degrees now that it's partially burned in ;)

I've got a 64 3000+, running with a huge copper heatsink that idles around 35/load 45 max.- with just a thermal pad. I really should get some AS :p

Do I get a cookie for this?

35C with a stock heatsink, and absolutely no thermal paste on the sink/CPU. CPU is a AMD 2400+, can hit 40C when under heavy load.

I win.

Athlon XP 2500+, Barton core

Crappy aluminum Ultra heatsink and fan, thermal paste, idles at 25 degrees C, never seen it go higher than 37.

7000 RPM fan on my AMD 3400+ @ 5% overclock :D

My 2400 Thoroughbred hits 70 on a regular basis with stock heatsink. Only ever had problems with it in hot weather when the heatsink wasn't mounted properly, and it'd have an aneurism as it hit 75, which is the motherboard's cut-off point. Remounted the HS and no more problems.
