I was wondering if there was a way for the iTrip stations to NOT show up in my library. When I added the iTrip stations to a new playlist, they also appeared in my general library, and I was wondering if there was a way to keep them from there.

Nevermind...

Unfortunately, there is no way to have the iTrip stations playlist on the iPod and not have the stations appear in your main Library. The playlists in your iPod are not separate from your Library. In fact, the playlist does not actually hold the songs, it only references the files in your Library.

FM transmitters are only good if you're in a relatively small radio broadcast area. I'm around Trenton for the summer and I get Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey stations. It's hell getting a blank station for me on my transmitter.

Yet another example of how Apple (Well, Griffen specifically) makes an old product seem new.

FM transmitters for this exact purpose have been around for years... and now that apple came out with one, its suddenly popular. I'll never understand society...

Not to mention, you can get an FM transmitter with better power, and more compatibility for only $20USD, as opposed to $35+ for the iTrip.

Yet another downer for Apple.

6 years ago I bought a CD player with a FM transmitter built-in because my car stereo didn't have a casette player, only the radio. Good times.

They weren't for the iPod...

And I've heard really bad things about that other $20 one as opposed to the iTrip.

Stop trying to diss apple unneededly. It's getting old.

My Buddy's iTrip is a piece of crap. He can move his iPod around in my car and I can loose the signal on the radio.

OMG APPLE DIS.

There's a difference. You don't go into any and every thread that even mentions Apple and continually bash them.

And that may be so. I'm not saying the iTrip is the end all of greatness. It just gets old for Matty to continually 'tell us' how 'crappy' apple is for his various reasons.

And I'm probably going to be called a hypocrite for telling him to shut up. Bleh, whatever.

I will if its true.

And this is SO, SO true.

And "I heard really really bad things about that $20 one".

Uhh, there's not just one, there's like 10 of em. Maybe one or two are as bad as iTrip, but not all of them.

On top of that, what the hell do you mean it wasn't for the ipod? They work with anything that has a headphone jack! And the last time I checked, an iPod had a headphone jack!

Sorry mate, but I only hand out what I hear, and maybe some facts along the way.

For example, I have 3 friends who have iPods. They all had iTrip, two returned em. The last one held onto it simply because he hasn't gotten a new one for using in his car.

The basic lowdown on why iTrip sucks:
A. Works only on certain iPods
B. Eats battery very quickly
C. Hard to configure
D. Poor power signal, resulting in poor transmissions and overall crappy sound.
E. Overpriced

I bought an FM transmitter kit (they give you all the peices, you solder it all together and build it yourself) that I'm planning on building this summer.

The car I'm looking into getting (dirt, dirt, dirt cheap from my cousin) doesn't have a CD player, so I'll use it in my car and it'll be mighty damn good times.

The site i got it from said it was quite powerful for that pricerange (It was under 30, I belive), and it can tune to any (commercial) radio frequency

OS X is multiples times better than any Operating system to date. Thats not an opinion; its a fact. OS X is simply more stable.

Apple's hardware is pretty solid. Despite the crooked polls, the hardware is stable and efficient, and the inside of a G5 is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. Its totally clean and easy to use. Installing a hard drive on my G5 was easier than cooking kraft dinner.

Nevermind the fact that the iPod is a good product. I find it difficult how you can deny the simplicty and grace in its design. ts not always cool to like hate whatever is popular, just so you know.

Bottom line: Apple doesn't suck.

Their products don't SUCK. They just have a lot of bull**** policies and their products have LOTS of MAJOR bugs that the public doesnt know about.

What PC do you know of that you can't put RAM into? That's stable hardware?... If the company MAKING the RAM doesn't even assure that it works with their OWN computers.. I think it's time to rethink things a little bit. Especially when they aren't letting consumers know about it.

What PC do you know of that has something called "Acceptable Pixel Distortions"... If I've got even one pixel out of place on a PC of mine, even if they won't replace it, they'll at least have a look at it to see what they could at elast tell me. APple doesn't even want you to take it into a shop, and agents are told to tell you not to.

I've always wondered why people believe that OS X runs circles around Windows when it's simply not true. We have G5's at school and I hear as many people b*tching and moaning about them as they do about Windows machines.

Wait, here's a chance for me to prove my point. Yet again, Apple takes the praise for which on top of not being made by them, was only modified and bastardized (in other words, they took core components from a different OS and Mac-ized it, introducing massive bugs and problems)

OSX has a Unix underlayer, and as anyone who has used Unix will tell you, OSX has NOTHING on Unix in terms of stability and speed. There's a reason many, MANY high-end businesses use Unix systems.
2005-06-03, 5:16 PM #25
Most Linux, Unix or BSD operating systems run circles around OS X for stability, and are far superior for what they do. For user friendliness, OS X probably can't be beat. But I have to admit, XP gives me little to no stability problems anymore.

You're all missing something important: the iTrip isn't made by Apple.

I have one, but I think I'm going to take it back for different one. I'd like to be able to use it on more than just my iPod.
2005-06-03, 6:10 PM #27
A lot of Apple products aren't actually made by Apple. Or did you mean the iTrip is third party but targetted towards the iPod?

could some one take a moment to describe to me (and anyone else who doesn't know) what unix, linux, and BSD systems are? Do they 'look' pretty much the same as a Mac or PC do when you're using it (in terms of the desk top and so forth?) I'm pretty much confused all around.

My appologies if I sound completely ignorant, because I am on the subject.

The iTrip is sold as an 'iPod accessory'. The only iPod stuff that apple makes is the dock, the cables that power the iPod, and the iPod itself. Everything else is made by someone else.

I don't doubt this to be the case, but in terms of personal computers, MAC OS X can't be beat. Its simple, solid and straightforward and while it may be somewhat limited by its interface, most of that isn't too big a deal if your a high school student just a regular user.

Windows XP with SP2 is just as solid as Mac OS X.

Even in an audio environment: my Athlon XP 2500+ with Sonar can run circles around my school's G5 Pro Tools system. Pro Tools even runs better under Windows than it does on Mac, IMO. OS X gets sucky quick when you try and get it to show some balls.

My (albeit limited) experience with on-campus Macs disagrees. It locks up when trying to view pages with a Java applet, fails to log in half the time (just hangs there)...

I make it a point to avoid using Macintoshes at all costs.
