Good Deals You Can't Pass Up

The subject says it all. Tell the story of good deals you found that you simply couldn't resist.

Today at work I discovered that all our Xbox copies of Doom 3 were ringing up at $9.99. Obviously this is a mistake, however I quickly took advantage of it. With my discount, I bought it for $7.99. Even though it may not be the greatest game, 7.99 is an awesome deal.

So you're proud you cheated the place you work at? Doesn't sound very smart to me.

I had a bad weakness for Play's 3 for £20 deal on DVDs. That stopped a while ago though, I think.

Doom 3 for only $7.99? Dang, I would've done it.

Went to a FYE (record store), looking for nothing in particular. I went to the used section, and found a very rare CD I've been wanting to get forever for only $4. It costs aroud $20 on eBay, so that was a pleasant surprise.

I didn't cheat anybody. I made a legitimate purchase. For all I know it's not a mistake. My boss was the one who sold it to me, so if the corporate office doesn't like it, I have a powerful shield.

After playing Doom 3, it is not worth $50 but at $8 it is.

One good deal I found at the end of last year was this CD place where I buy European CD's that aren't sold here in the US. They were offering gift certificates, and if you bought a certain amount you got so much added on free.

So I got a $250 gift certificate with a free $50 added on. Was pretty good deal, figuring I buy lots of CD's during the year. Was like a prepayment for all my purchases. Paid for it at one time, now I keep ordering CD's whenever I want, and I got roughly ~4-5 CD's free. Not bad at all. Plus, I have noticed a drop in my credit card bill right now as well.

Just felt odd ordering it.

Phone: "Now who is this being made out to?"

Me: "Make it out to myself."

Phone: "Going to be a surprise gift, huh?"

:)

Also, the vendor last year gave out a certain number of free CD's based on the number of orders you'd done with them. Thus, all you had to do was call - tell what CD's you wanted, and they sent them to you for free.

Got an Airsoft Maruzen Model 870 shell ejecting shotgun with pistol grip for $230 delivered plus a free bag of 5 shells ($20 value) thrown in. It's been out of production for around 2-3 years. It's a pretty rare gun to find even second-hand as it's highly saught after, yet this one was hardly used and came completely in it's original form with the box and such.

I saw one go on ebay around the same time I got mine, that one was highly modified and heavily used but still went for around $269 before shipping. When they were originally available they were $179 with $60+/- shipping since they were mostly only available on Hong Kong sites and such.

Out of all the people trying to get it from the seller, he decided to sell to me since I was most consistent with replies. The funny part is that even though I had learned about it and would've liked to have had one, I figured it was pointless and wasn't even looking.

I don't have any good pictures of it since my digicam is pretty much dead so: http://www.wargameclub.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=MZ-SG-M870GV

I was thinking about buying an MP3 player. I was checking prices, reading reviews, etc. when I run across a 40GB Zen Touch on Froogle for $190. For comparison, they currently cost about $300. I could sell it used for more than I paid for it.

Well I'm getting a computer... for free.
2GB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, 2.5+ GHZ, 256MB Graphics Card... yeah... it was a bit tempting. I had to take the offer. :P
2005-06-04, 10:28 PM #12
Let's see....

Gamecube + 5 Games + 2 Controllers + Memory Card = 60 dollars

Just got a free 1Ghz PIII, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD computer

160GB HD for 30 bucks, and 200GB for 50

I got my 1998 Ford Contour GL for really cheap. Only around 3600. Perfect condition (just needs to get one thing fixed up in the shop next week, tires misalligned a bit). My grandpa is a car dealer, so he didn't charge us commission on the car, so it was pretty cheap.

20" Apple (Sony) Trinitron CRT, free. Old, but still crisp in the center of the screen.
20" Dell (Sony) Trinitron CRT, free. New, flawless, perfect image, no color convergence problems.
Half the computer crap in my basement, free.
A dozen or two bicycles, including some top-quality Schwinns in great condition, free.

...

The list goes on. I garbage pick all the time. Gotten some great stuff.

And for things bought, I got some used Sennheiser HD600 for $110 shipped. There was no cable and one of the driver connections was broken. Sennheiser replaced both for free. These retail around or over $300. Essentially I got them for $115.

My Grado SR 80's. Local hi-fi shop sells them for €165. Dad was on a business trip to New York. I told him to be on the look-out for them and that I'd pay him back. $90 cash. The exchange rate was something closer to €75. EXULT!

Also saved nearly €100 compared to the Finnish price on my Creative Zen Micro by having Dad pick it up on a business trip to Singapore. Eheh.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

The guy who owns the guitar shop I got the guitar and amp at set me up with the whole outfit, and decided he wanted to shave off $75 because I was new to the guitar scene in the area. And because he's the man.

Somehow I doubt the stingray is in UBERGREAT condition for only 7800 bucks. It looks nice, but if you're serious it has got to have some problems. Otherwise whoever sold it to you is retarded, and you should feel bad for cheating the mentally handicapped.

Last summer I got my current computer, an Athlon XP 1800+ for $5.00. We were heading around yardsales, and there was one where there was a box of computer stuff. I found one case I liked and planned on getting it just for that. I asked the lady how much she wanted, and she said make an offer, so I was going to tell her $20, when the lady next to her told me $5 would be fine. I happily handed her the money, and all but ran back to the car. When I opened it up to see the insides, it was an MSI motherboard with the Athlon XP 1800+ and a 40gb IBM hard drive. :)

Oh, and a month or so ago, I got a Celeron 433 with a 20gb hard drive for $2 at a local thrift store.

I got a 400mhz celey PC for free, just needed a new PSU. Works great as a server.

My laptop was a great deal, AMD Athlon64 3200+, 512MB RAM, GF4 Go, WinXP, CD-RW/DVDROM, and a sexy 15.4" widescreen LCD. The LCD is what really sweetens it, it has a rich dark black, and a gloss finish that seriously hides all fingerprints and scuffs. All for $950.

I purchased it from an old woman. It had belonged to her husband who had recently passed, and she had no use for it. She didn't know what it was, but her son recommended she sell it $8000. I worked it down $200 (I am not a good negotiator).

It was primer gray when I obtaind it, and didn't have the super-awesome-and-wonderfully-excellently-great side exhausts. Other than that, it was ideal.
