My friend mentioned that he only remembers dreams when he wakes up and then falls back asleep. I took note of this and realized that I've remembered my dreams throughout the week. I started keeping track and the past two nights in a row I've woken up earlier and fallen back asleep, remembering my dreams.

Do you think that we dream every night and just don't remember it, that waking up early and falling back asleep just helps you not forget?

I think you can overthink the dream so it doesn't have time to settle in. At least, that's how it seems to be for me. But I very rarelly sleep deeply enough to dream. Damn insomnia.

I think we forget. I hardly ever remember my dreams, though.

Every night you dream, it's just you forget by the time you wake up. You remember the dreams you dreamt just before waking up. That's why you remember when you wake up and fall asleep again.

Keep a pen and paper next to your bed and write down what you can remember about your dream when you wake up. The dream will come flooding back when you decipher your writing later that day.

It's pretty much a fact that we always dream but just don't remember them usually. And yes, waking up then going back to sleep seems to work everytime. Also I always have very vivid, memorable dreams when I go to sleep drunk, which is not something I would expect. Try it.

I always remember the dreams that are worth remembering. Like the dream where the girl I liked kissed me. I remember that from three years ago.

...I am not lonely. :(
DO NOT WANT.

I can say for certain that I dream every night... What worries me is that I dream almost instantly when I go to sleep. I can pass out in my car for a 15 min nap (a common occurrence for me) and dream. According to most psychology textbooks this is not natural... That said, I’m not complaining:

Vivid imagination + consistent dreaming + ability to fall asleep almost any time = good times!

As for remembering dreams, after I wake up I have about a 5-15 min window to start thinking about a dream. If I don’t think about the dream continually, ill forget it.

I also find it interesting that if I sleep for over 8 hours or so, I will continue dreaming, but I can wake up for short periods of time (such as going to the bathroom, reacting to an alarm clock, even re-setting the alarm clock) and then go back to sleep and the same dream will continue.

Look up Rapid-Eye Movement or R.E.M. (not the band)

[EDIT] Looked it up for you.

Huh...my brother ate all my peanut butter. So I killed him in a lightsaber duel.
