Have you ever bought something that was purely for nostalgia's sake. You never are gonna use it again, but you had it once, and you loved it then, so you buy it now.

The reason I think of this is because I was at a Used Book/Movie/Game shop, and they recrently renevated, and had a whole crapload of games and stuff.

So I was looking, and I saw Madden 98 for the PC, one of the first real PC games that I was good at. Then I saw games like Sonic on the Gensis, JKII. Just gave me those gooood memories.

Anyways, discuss.

I picked up the old Mega Drive / Genesis Sonic games on the Xbox in a sale recently. These were my favourite games when I was about ten. I was unstoppable at these games at that young age, now I'm utterly rubbish at them.

Happens to me all the time.

Apart from the aforementioned crisis with Sonic, I played JK for the first time in years a while back and gave up on level six as it was two hard.

Bearing in mind that JK is probably the one PC game I've played through more than any other, this is worrying.

This too is something that comes to mind. Kicked *** in a bunch of games at a little one, can't beat now.

An exception is Mega Man X for the PC. I can probably beat that thing in less than an hour now.

I think the main reason why, besides age, is that I think much more tactically then I used too.

If I could put my gameplay thoughts into words it would be like this:

5 or more years ago:
"I'll just run into the open and ignore using that big box for cover and fire while standing still in the open until everything is dead."

Now:
"I see a box which I can hide behind, so if I run... NOW and stay hidden, I can lob a grenade off this wall and get it to land at their feet without them knowing I'm here."

For some games I'm like sol. But for others? I can BARELLY play Mario Brother's 3. Holy CRAP that game is difficult. As a kid? I could probably beat it in my sleep.

Has it ended yet?

No, it's just taking a break.

Actually, what most people don't understand is that life is the never-ending story, but whatever.
