I was just wondering if anybody has played the demo, and if so, what are you thoughts on it? I'm waiting in line right now, it's gonna be awhile. Post screenshots.

Haven't played it yet, but it's on my list of games to play.
Pissed Off?

Tried to download it several times, and each time I attempted to, the stupid download would cancel due to the site's bandwith limitations. I finally have one going and it's at 80%, but I have to go to work, so when I get back it's BF:2 time. :D

Well, the video and control config screens stink so much that I've been spending my time trying to get the thing to accept 1680x1050 resolution, and trying to work around the stupid control config bugs. Who ever designed the control screen should be shot. He was an idiot!

When I get my new computer, I'm getting Battlefield 2 with it.
2005-06-11, 11:11 AM #6
There should be a, "Havn't played it - It rocks!" option.
2005-06-11, 11:14 AM #7
I've downloaded it and ran through SP. Now trying MP next.

Was great - really felt like modern day war and epic.

However, setting it up was a pain in the ***. And I hate how you have to load the menu everytime you want to change something.

Took awhile to get the video card settings right, and it keeps telling me I need to install the latest NVIDIA drivers when I have the latest.

But its good! Can only imagine with 64 players!
2005-06-11, 11:17 AM #8
Yea I need to figure out what settings are going to look good and not lag my machine.

just played with 61 other people and it kicks some ***, I must say. It really does feel like modern war. Sound effects are top-notch, as well. Very little noticable lag, at least on the server I was on.
2005-06-11, 12:49 PM #10
Yeah, just got done with MP. Awesome fun. So many aircraft and vehicles - it's great.

Only complaint is it seems like its such a resource hog and I have a 3.2 Ghz processor and 1 gig of ram and it still feels like its just bogging down my system.

Great fun though, nothing beats seeing a chopper start spinning like in black hawk down, seeing people parachute out, and then reviving your soldiers on the field.

Great game!
2005-06-11, 1:06 PM #11
Hmm, if its such a resource hog, then i'm going to need to wait for my new computer, mine current one's not going to have a chance (1.5 gig, 512 Ram).

Edit: Heh, jsut checked. doesn't even meet minimum >.<. well, my laptop should still almost rank high-end, so its all good.

Well I don't know, is anyone else experiencing it? Just makes comp run really slow, takes like 45 seconds to shut down *as in I see my desktop but can't do anything while music still playing. It sounds like its purging the data outta my memory or something*

I hope it's cause it's the demo... Can play HL2 or Doom 3 fine and access menu's instantly, close fast, etc. Don't know why it takes like 20 seconds to open a menu if I'm in the game, and take forever to close.

*shrugs*
2005-06-11, 2:39 PM #13
I hate when games take forever to close. I'm about to install the demo, so I'll find out.

I just got done playing online for like 2 hours. It's really fun, although I'm a little disappointed by the graphics. I have all the settings on High, and I thought it was going to look a little better. Still very cool though.

BF 1942 is still my favorite game so i am looking foreward to this one. :D
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
2005-06-11, 6:02 PM #16
Wow, I actually really like this game. The aircraft aren't any easier to control than in BF1942 though...

I completely agree. For some reason when I try to make it so the X-axis on my mouse is used for turning left/right in an airplane, it says that there is a duplicate control in the "Common Controls"

It's really angering me :(

And what's worse is I can't find the config file to manually change it myself out of game

Thank goodness the netcode is VASTLY improved over BF1942. Even on huge servers, I've been playing almost lag free with low ping. The game also feels a lot more responsive than BF1942 and BFVietnam for some reason.

It great once you figure out how to make the controls configurable, and how to set up custom resolutions. If anyone needs help with those things I can post instructions and a modified controls.con file. To force a different resolution, just add "+szx 1680 +szy 1050" or what ever other resolution you want to the target box in the "short cut" of tab the the BF 2 demo short cut properties.
2005-06-12, 1:58 PM #23
Will try it out as soon as the Coh trial im playing stops using up all my free time.
nope.
2005-06-12, 2:36 PM #24
*Reads rest of thread*

Ok, here's the instructions for fixing the controls.
1.Download this,

2. Unzip it and place it in C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles\0001.

The file will be there and is not where ever you installed BF2. Be sure to back up your original controls.con file before doing this. This has not been extensively tested and may cause problems. Also note that this will erase any current control scheme you have. You will have to reset it.

I played it earlier with some bots, just trying to get it configured properly. The menus suck.

Same here. Running at anything higher than 1024x768 seems to make it unplayably slow.

Odd. I have an AMD 64 3200+ with a gig of Ram and a 9800 pro and it runs fine for me. I'm running in 1680x 1050 too.

Yeah, the menu system really sucks for the game. I hope it loads faster with full retail, but I doubt.

Hopefully, they change it some in a patch. It's stupid waiting so long for a freaking menu. I'd rather have instant access then wait 5 seconds so it looks cooler
2005-06-12, 6:06 PM #29
...So? Nothing about the game bothers me as of yet, except for the fact that there's just one level. I want the full version. :(
DO NOT WANT.

It runs really well on my computer: XP 1800, 1 gig RAM and a 9700 pro. Granted, not the higests settings, but certainly well enough to play.

Haven't tried it yet, probably wouldn't run, not interested anyway.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.
2005-06-12, 8:10 PM #32
Woo! I got everything running fine and smoothly with no lag, dunno what's wrong with all your computers. So far, every match I've been in has been an intense fight to the death, the last one being the most memorable. We held one point as the MECs surreounded by americans on all sides, and we did so for ages. We still lost, but man, was it ever fun. I've become an expert at anti-tank weapons, I've learned to fire, duck back, fire from somewhere else, and fire again. I killed a fully healed tank once without it ever finding me. Then I killed its buddy. :D
DO NOT WANT.

Okay, I managed to get one crappy pic of me harassing the enemy aircraft carrier spawn.

Things are really too fast paced in a plae to get a proper pic, this doesn't do the graphics justice. The sounds are where it's mostly at in this game, nothing is scarier than that 'missile lock' beep blaring at you.
DO NOT WANT.

After playing it I can't say I'm impressed. The game just isn't very fun.

Played it. Best game of all time, so far. (Other than Deus Ex.)

This game is great. It has some technical issues and bugs (and let's face it, both the server browser and the control configuration menu suck), but everything else delivers. If you want something in the spirit of Battlefield 1942 with some vast improvements, I don't know how you could go wrong.
2005-06-13, 2:46 PM #40
I have no problems with the menus, except lag on the server browser.
