iRiver buds rock mostly because they're usually Sennheiser MX500s or whatever.

But yeah, sweet player man. Must've cost you a pretty penny! ;)

nah if these were mx500s they'd fit better in my ears and have an inline volume control

they MIGHT be rebranded senn buds and their inability to stay in my ears might be because i couldn't get the foam on the things... every bud i've tried has fit better with foam on them

and it was only $110

On the contrary, I expected it to be more!

Those Koss plugs are supposed to sound pretty good when you replace the tips with foam earplugs with a hole punched through them (or drilled, yes, you can drill foam).

Also, you may take a look at the Shure E4c, they're getting a lot of awesome raps at Head-Fi. A lot of people like them more than the E5c. Apparently they have some really punchy bass and a great midrange and good highs, too. The Super.fi 5 Pros from Ultimate Ears are their new non-custom IEMs and I guess are similarly awesome, and I guess they have a good soundstage (in an IEM? apparently, yes). I think they're both in the $200 range if you're willing to spend that.

i'm not looking to pay that much for IEMs which is why i only plan to go with the e3c

and the plugs sound alright with the included tips... not gonna bother with trying to put a hole in an earplug until i need replacement tips

Righto, that's cool. Just putting the info out there since both of those products are quite new, and your only option between the E3 and the E5 is...nothing.

It's a dildo.

...it's an MP3 player. It has headphones coming out of it and there's a song title on the LCD. You're thicker than a good Irish brew.

I heard I'm gonna get a digital camera for my birthday in December, so I can take pictures of my toys as well. :) First thing would be to figure out how the hell to take a pic of the camera... hmm...

2005-06-14, 7:09 PM #32
sit the camera on a tripod or stable surface in front of a mirror... turn the flash off, make sure there's plenty of light in the room then try different exposure times until you get a bright enough picture...

or borrow someone else's digital camera

Nice pick Jim :D

And for ya Non-iRiverians, please take note of the OGG playback, and of course, the Darth iRiver tag.
2005-06-15, 2:23 PM #37
Only problem with OGG is that it drains battery life faster than an Irish pintswiller drains a pint (again with the Irish. I hope my cousins don't catch me writing this :o ). My battery with OGG lasted for a matter of days (with a sound-quality of 224kbps, that's hardly worth it). Meanwhile with VBR MP3s set to highest quality, my battery would last for more than a week, and i'd only loose a couple of songs.

As for the headsets, i've been trying to decide whether to go for a set of Shure e3c's (expensive, and quite difficult to find, as i REALLY don't want to have to drive all the way to Toronto to get a set of earbudds), and a set of B&O A8's (again, expensive, and the only place that i know sells it happens to be the B&O store on Bloor Street). Might try the earplug thing on my old iPod earbuds though. Any other suguestions?

maybe if you're using cheap batteries the ogg battery hit will be that noticable

and the 224kbps max is no big deal for a flash player most people would keep it around q5 or q4 to get as much out of the limited space the player has

the only REAL disadvantage to using vorbis for my iriver is a lack of any software like mp3gain that works the same way for vorbis meaning you would have to rip to wav, use wavegain, then encode if you don't want severe shifts in track volume

now for the picture with everything (except the USB cable) that came with the iriver

quick start guide, software manual, hardware manual, booklet with urls for "free" trials of a few online music services (they all require credit cards), installation disc...
