And in a word, the game sucks.

Only in comparison to the first one anyway.

Standalone, the game is ok, it's a very B ish game. Unfortunately, it didn't have anything amazing or exciting happen. The characters didn't interact well, they didn't have alot of interesting depth.

Unfortunately, it has very little to actually do with the first game. I was hoping for a continuatino of the story of KOTOR 1, but instead it was merely a side story that mildly had something to do with the first.

one aspect of the game that was intriguing was the fact that you were a uber jedi who was more powerful than any other jedi. It was cool that by the end of the game you didn't need a 3-party group, you just needed yourself, your force healing, and your force buffs, rendering yourself to be amazingly near-invincible.

What I DIDN'T like was the sith lords. Sion and his master (before kreia). They were completely irrelevant to the story (seemingly). When it came down to it, the game was about what Kreia wanted to see in your character, what you could become. And that's it. no great purpose, no major goals, just trying to figure out who you are and figuring out you're some exceptionally cool jedi... and that's it.

And TELOS... don't get me started. That planet sucked in general. A bunch of squareish halls with a bunch of aliens that no one cares about. Telos didn't seem to be a good place to start the game at all. It reminded me of Nar Shadaa... in JK... before you go to Nar Shadaa in KOTOR2. Bland and boring, uninteresting to the max.

Well, if they make a KOTOR 3, I jsut hope it closes all the storylines from the last 2. I'm sure they could pull it off. you still have to figure out what happens to Revan on the Outer Rim

What do you guys think?

Quick question, how long does it take to beat a kotor game? I've been meaning to pick up the first one, but i'm not sure if I have enough time to invest in it.

I thought it was all kinds of @#%&*!$ awesome.

The character interaction was great. Did you turn any of your party into Jedi apprentices? Did you cause any of them to turn against you? .

The story wasn't spectacular with a huge jaw-dropper like the first, but it was full of lots of little surprises (namely stuff revealed from the Jedi Masters and various hidden recordings).

I liked it, a lot. It's not quite as good as the first, but it comes damn close.

I agree, I always thought they were simply trying to put to much into the backstory, and the story never really flowed.

And your characthers were way to powerful. A single lightning blast could take out a whole slew of dark jedi in the final place.

The first one took me about 30 or so hours. I didn't do everything, but I did most of the quests I came a across and didn't just rush through the game.

I wouldn't really call the story of the first one a masterpiece... It was really nothing more than a piece together of story elements from older Bioware games adapted for Star Wars...

I never could get past the surface of Telos. I just lost interest.

Exactly... Telos SUCKED.

I had to strain to get through Telos, hoping that it would pick up and go somewhere. By the time you get to the South Pole it got more interesting, but still. The game had waayyy too slow of a start.

(run around and kill things, here's some backstory, but we still don't know why you're supposed to care until halfway through the game)

You must have missed all of each character's side quests.

Same here. Took me 36 hours 32 minutes on the second one, and around 30 hours on the first.

Telos sucked. KOTOR's dialogue stuff sucked too. I did like fighting naked with the Echanti though :)

I just installed it the other day, and have as of yet been unable to get it to actually work playably at all.

Basically, every few minutes or in certain areas or for no apparent reason, all my movement controls will stop responding and my character will flailingly hurl themself in random directions stuck in the middle of a run animation for an unspecified amount of time. Sometimes it resolves itself after a number of seconds, but more commonly they just get stuck in a corner forever. Usually, a quicksave and a quickload will more or less sort that out for another few minutes, but I have gotten to a place on the Peregos Fuel depot, where either that doesn't work or immediately after the load it will start up again.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, making sure it is patched to the most recent version, gotten the most recent catalyst drivers from ati and everything; but no love.

Also, I am somewhat annoyed that on even lower settings and with an even better box and video card, kotor2 runs noticeably choppier in places than kotor1, with no apparent increase in complexity or detail or what-have-you.

[On a side note, the latest drivers seem to have a bit of weird glitchiness in games, wherre streaks of some raster color will appear now and then, seem to be related to ray-tracing or something, as in WoW for instance it tends to be blue or green as per npc/pc headers].
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

The levels, especially Telos, seem boxy and small. JK's Nar Shadaa was better because it was at least big. Taris was a thousand times better. Also, the enemies have very little loot. I like KoToR 1, because you were always getting loot and then you were always buying and selling to get the prefect weapons. The shops in KoToR II were awful. Back ground music would have been nice too. I can't believe the game had none. It was dissapointed too, because the music for the menu that pops up before you start the game is really good. There were a bunch of bugs too. I couldn't complete any of the Nar Shadda Side quests because of bugs. The levels were pretty lackluster too. Not not mention all the plot holes. Like, what happened to Goto and that remote. The last you see of them, Goto prevents the planet from blowing up. What about Mirah! It felt really lack luster to me.

Had the same problem myself, but didn't occur anywhere near as often as it seems to with you, if you manage to get through to play on Dantooine, be warned, this is where it happened to me...a lot, its not like I have a bad system either, (P4 3ghz 6800gt 1Gig RAM)...but the game definatly is buggy...other than Dantooine it only seemed to occur on a few other wide open areas.

have you tried the patching the game? made things run a little more smoothly for me.

And, it also should be mentioned. HK-47 and TM's inclusion in the game felt way to forced, and didnt fit at all.

Didn't you see the *ending*? G0T0 mates with the remote, and create R2D2.

...

Okay I know. You're right.

Kreia was a cool character. It took me awhile to get used to an old blind twi'lek, but after awhile I liked the idea of a neutral character making tons of observations, and having knowledge about everything.

Goto... was cool while you're talking to him on the ship... and that's it. I did NOT like his droid. It wasn't a worthwhile, interesting, or desireable character at all. He had almost no purpose, and his/ his droid's goals were not really addressed by the end of the game.

Bar-Dur...sucked. He had potential to be a good character at first, then it went downhill.

T3 had almost 0 purpose other than to repair the ship in the beginning.

...

Another major problem I had was the new upgrade system. It seemed that the developers wanted there to be alot more work on the players part to MAKE better weapons instead of find them. Personally, I only found lightsabers to be worth upgrading.

Kreia?

You see a flashback of her with her hood off in a vision early in the game. That's not hair, those are the twi'lek lobe things... are they not?

That is possible, though my video card isn't overclocked, and with the 0.54 drivers [these are 0.56] the problem did not occur, however upgrading to 0.56 /somewhat/ decreased the rate of the other problem.

For me the biggest problem with Knights of the Old Republic 2 would have to...

How everything, everything falls down near the end. Throughout the game, lots of things appear to be foreshadowed, and everything appears to be building itself up to an amazing climax... after Kreia's betrayal(one that was just marvelous, I think), things just get bloody random, especially if you missed a whole lot things from the start, like the explanation of what Nihilius is, Malachor V as a whole, and other pieces of the backstory.

Of course, some would claim that it makes for great replay value, so you can understand things later on. Rubbish, I'd say. Work it out further via their backstories if you wish, but at least gives us some sort of a summary. Case in point, the Leviathan part in Knights of the Old Republic. Before you get there, Carth is nice enough to give a quick, concise, to-the-point explanation of his relationship with Saul Karath. If you'd want to know more about how it worked, you'd have to talk with him about it.

Any case, again, the ending of KotOR 2... all sorts of things just seem to happen. The party with whom you've been travelling with throughout the entire game is almost completely forgotten, or placed in at some random point. What use was there for the smuggler lady to face Hanharr again?(if you took her along) What was the entire deal with the remote and Bao-Dur? How did things end with G0-T0, and what the bloody hell was he doing there to begin with?! Frankly, the entire game, aside from the bugs, before the Dantooien relevation was excellent. After that, the entire storyline goes down, taking all the earlier parts with it as well. There is no pay-off whatsoever.

And most of all, the ending as a whole... what pray-tell happened? The Ebon Hawk appears to be randomly destroyed by some random accident, but 'oi, look, it's there! It must've been fixed by someone! Who could've fix it! Ooooh, neat escape from Malachor V, semi-imitating the escape from DS2. Now let's find out what the characate- THE END! Honestly, I don't care if this some sort of an ESB ending, this isn't no ending. The storyline simply stops. The ending, to me, seems to be more like ending Empire Strikes Back after Lando and Leia have picked up Luke from Cloud City. Lots of things appear to be promised about a future sequel, like the whole True Sith nonsense and Darth Revan going t here to fight them, but with the KotOR 3 team already disbanded, I'm really afraid that we're going to be stuck with this for a bloody long time.

Worst of all for me, it didn't have to be like that. As most might know, the Obsidian blokes had some bloody neat plans for the ending that were scrapped. The HK factory with some bloody awesome, humorous dialogue with the HK droids. Canderous talking with Visas Marr on his last encounter with Darth Revan and some possibly hints on what the True Sith are all about(he keeps on mentioning that fighting them wasn't going to be a 'convential war', but rather a 'war of belief'). All sorts of neat options on how to beat Nihilius. Or Malachor V... good lord, Malachor V... The party trying to take on Kreia alone, and being utterly defeated. Atton turning on Disciple, or rather being horribly killed by Darth Sion. The handmaiden turning on Visas Marr. Bao-Dur's final words to the party members as he sacrifices himself. HK-47 and the other HK-droids saving the Remote from G0-T0. The Exile having a final talk with Visas Marr or the Handmaiden that they should start building the new generation of the Jedi while the Exile is going to head into the outer rims to search for Darth Revan.

The ending itself could've been bloody brilliant, dramatic, and bloody emotional at that. The fact that all these awesome plans were in the works, but weren't realised... that's what really dissapoints me the most with Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Ja, a shame.
The answer is maybe.
