First we have a 5.6 earthquake 20 mi south of Palm Springs, CA, now we have this earthquake (7.4 90 mi from Eureka, CA). Mind you this happened with in a four day time span. There was a tsunami warning for basically all of the state but that warning has been cancelled.

I must say, this is a bit eerie. Fellow Californians, your take?

There was a tsunami watch for Long Beach (where I live) and also for San franscisco tonight. Fortunately, nothing happened, and the watch has now expired. We should be in the clear.

The most SF got was a fairly big wave, but no damage was done. We probably got one too, but Long Beach has a permanent breakwater in place (which means that it sucks for surfing-- to surf, you have to go to huntington) and the breakwater probably stopped it.

Of course, the breakwater causes huge problems of it's own, namely keeping the water on the land side of the breakwater absolutely filthy.

Slept through the first one, didn't feel the second one (where I was). Wake me up when the LA freeways collapse again.

Honestly, who's worried about earthquakes? Tornadoes and hurricanes are the scary natural disasters.

Errr... December 26th last year?

The only natural disaster more scary than an earthquake is a meteor.

Volcano? That's like an earthquake and a meteor at the same time.

I think an asteroid would be scarier than a meteor...

VTEC just kicked in, yo!

Yes, but meteors burn up in the air. If it hits the ground it's called a meteorite.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Yet another earthquake. 5.3 on the scale. It was placed somewhere in Riverside county near Yucaipa.

Riverside needs to be destroyed anywho. And Yorba Linda.

Me no likey..

Anyways, we had a tornado Monday, and another one yesterday.

I have been in 6 tornado's total (by "in" I mean within 10 miles). I'm still living.

But our city of Stockton was destroyed. There is literally nothing left of it after last year's tornado

BUT STILL! Their shopping centers and roads are confusing, and I can't find an In n Out burger anywhere there.

Hemet (in Riverside Co) is the city of "Right Turn Only." Seriously, the only places I can make left turns are at stoplights. But, I think there is an In N Out on Florida. And that's important.

Yeah, I felt that one.

Everytime I leave ANYTHING it goes down south...

Cities I left? Went from prime estate to gang land.

Schools after I graduated? Teachers leave in exodus.

I'm not kidding. And now that I'm leaving all of California to fend for itself? Well, let's just say it's time to buy some soon-to-be beachfront property in Nevada.

In all seriousness, yeah, a bit odd. HORRID weather we are having. June gloom, pah!
2005-06-16, 11:48 PM #30
Horrid weather? I've loved this summer so far. So mild I haven't needed the AC.

As for this last earthquake, I felt it. At first I thought it was a big rig barreling down the street too fast, then there was a 1 second lull then a slightly bigger rumble (although still small). I'm 30 minutes south of Riverside (the city, not sure exactly where the epicenter was), but it was weak here.

I like earthquakes, you can't run from them, and they're usually way too short to hide during them, so there's no point in worrying over them. Unless a 6.0+ breaks loose right under my modern California track home, I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.
