Extended Draw Distance Mod for San Andreas

All I can say is--hell yes. I've been playing a bit with it on (flying around) and it's so much better.

Ugh wtf.

I put this mod in, and now, it blinks all over the place.

I'll get a big blue screen covering the entire thing for like half a second.

Really, really annoying.

ninjaedit: alright I think I fixed it.

Is that game supposed to look good?
2005-06-15, 12:10 AM #9
Awesome. I don't have San Andreas yet, but I loved playing Vice City with the Outside World mod which did the same thing. I later modified it so it drew even FURTHER. No building hid in the fog when I was done with it...unforatunely trees weren't affected and cards still randomly spawned.

Speaking of which, did they fix that in this game? I hated how, in GTA3 and VC, cars spawned randomly around you. So a car could be coming towards you, and if you did a 360, it would be gone or would be replaced by another car.

For GTA? Yes. I think so.

Sometimes. Sometimes I can do a 360 and chase down a car. Other times it goes poof. Suckage. But nothin beats blastin' 3rd Street Ballas to my Minus the Bear tunes.

And yeah, this mod makes it look like a real city...finally.

Oh yeah, thank Buck for the info.

Are your graphics on low? That looks absolutely terrible, even compared to the PS2 version. I've seen other peoples computer versions with somewhat very nice graphics...?

The website for the mod has better looking ones, so I assume your on low.

does this mod cause framerate to plummet?

It can.

Drizzt--the graphics are no highest everything, 4xaa, 8xaf. I had to turn down AA and AF because it was lagging horribly with this on. It's just a bad screenshot--only meant to show what it looks like.

And really, those graphics are obviously superior to the PS2's. So I don't know what kind of crack you're smoking.

This made no difference to framerate at all for me.

I'm running at 1600x1200 no AA, detail on medium on a 9800 pro.

Go to the control panel, and select Temperal AA, and select 2x. Its 4x AA for free. I love it. I use it for Doom 3 and I get the same FPS with it on or off. Me love ATI. :)

Graphics were never the selling factor in GTA games, anyways.

Yeah, if it had great graphics, there's no way you can make maps that large and run ok on the average machine.

you could... Driv3r and Mafia have better graphics... ok so Driv3r is not that good a game... but it still has better graphics...

but mafia is still the best example of a game that looks better than any GTA (helps that is was developed for PC)

I would beg to differ, the ps2 graphics are much better than in that shot.

Mafia was wonderful (I played the demo), but you think it has better graphics than the GTA series, even though it's what, 2-3 years old? I'm not disputing it, but wow, that kind of reflects badly on San Andreas.

Mafia definitely has better graphics than GTA3 and VC. I haven't played San Andreas yet, so I can't comment on that.
2005-06-15, 11:02 AM #27
Pity Mafia had such a short draw distance in the metropolitan area. Nothing like in GTA3 where you can see distant low-poly versions of the other two islands, or gaze across the strait to see the distant skyline in Vice City. The countryside in Mafia had a nice long draw distance though, so you could really check out the view from the bridges or the dam.

It would've been great to climb one of the hills and see the big city sprawling underneath, with the bridges, buildings, lighthouse and the river all in view. For example in the brilliant mission where you assassinate the guy from across the river at the top of the tower of the abandoned prison, once you go out again, you can't even see the prison from where the guy was holding the speech :(
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Mafia wasn't very well designed. My computer nearly doubled the required specs and it still ran very badly. And I mean awfully. It was barely playable the framerate was so bad. I Had to turn everything to lowest and it still ran badly. And the graphics were hardly that great.

Interesting...My computer had like double the processor power of that, double the ram, but I think crappy video card. Thats probably the reason.

I agree with him on this one. Especially with the first image of "Post your CJ" thread...when I saw that, I was totally going to get this game for PC now. But I am not going to spend $30 bucks right now on a game I already beat :)
2005-06-15, 12:18 PM #32
It's only $30?
2005-06-15, 9:23 PM #33
San Andreas has great graphics- once you get up close. The detail is pretty great when you get closer to objects, but that's all lost at a distance to save FPS. It's rendering the entire game landscape here, remember. I've played enough to have entered two of the cities, and I haven't encountered a single loading screen yet. At least, not like in Vice City, where it would take about 20 seconds to load each time I crossed the main bridge to the other side of that river.
DO NOT WANT.
2005-06-16, 1:49 PM #34
I think that's just a bad shot, on account of bad timing. I haven't gotten very good screenshots of San Andreas, unless I'm on foot. In the air, things don't look as great.

Sometimes with SA, even on the PC version, you'll enter a new area, and eveything will look kinda bad, then in one second every single detail will pop up and it will look great.

Trust me that the game looks better than that screenshot.
