So my ATI AIW x600 Pro PCI-E card finally showed up today, and can I just say WOW! All I've really done with it so far (after installing, of course) is just use the built in FM tuner, and I'm perma-grinning from ear to ear. I can't wait to use the PVR (I don't have cable right now, but I'm planning on getting it when I move)

It was the last component I was waiting on for my new computer (I've been running the computer for a few days now, but had a 2mb (yes 2 mb) PCI video card installed until the PCI-E card showed up)) Here are the specs of the computer:

Athlon 64 3400+
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Motherboard
2 - 1gb Geil PC3200 DDR Ram (2gb total)
PCI-E ATI AIW x600 Pro
BENQ 16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
AOpen 52x CDRW/DVD drive
2 - 60gb Maxtor IDE hard drives

Anywho, post your most recent computer related purchase (whether it be a game, or hardware, etc)

got bored, so heres my purchases in the last 8 months..In most recent order

GTA-San Andreas - Bloody good...

Logitech Precision Gaming Headset - Started doing a lot of online gaming since i've got back from uni and needed a better mic, plus my family were moaning about the noise from gunshots etc....I've also started using the mic to dictate in word, saves typing, not sure if I'll stick with it because of the number of mistakes, quicker and easier to type. The headset is very good btw

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - sweat....very good...good exam distraction :p

Sith Lords - uuummm...good but nothing special...

HL2 - Amazing SP...playing DM now...great fun...

250gb Maxtor OneTouch II external hard drive - I didn't want to buy an internal drive because within the next year I'm planning on building a new pc and i'm aiming to have all SATA drives and no IDE drives because of the cables...yes I know you can have rounded cables, i'm just being picky...plus having an external drive means I can take it anywhere....virtually as long as they have either Firewire or USB2, again very good drive, could use it to run programs off, although it gets pretty hot...

Antec 350Watt SmartBlue - Because of the below purchase...needed a safey margin on the power supply.

Asus V9999GT 256mb - Old card was a ti4200, showing its age now, has lasted me 3 years, can't really complain, V9999GT is great if a bit noisy and power hungry.

Logitech MX1000 - Wanted a new wireless mouse and fed up replacing the batteries in my last microsoft mouse, liked the look and feel of the MX1000 over the MX700/900..plus all the buttons :D

Logitech Media Keyboard - No reason really, just wanted a new keyboard, didn't like the old one...

Samsung 172x - old LCD had a max res of 1024*768..too small and looked ugly, Samsung on the other hand...amazing display would recommend to anyone.

its clear now where all my monies gone...

I bought a DVI to component video adapter that doesn't work.

Prior to that, I bought a replacement DVD/CD-RW combo drive, which was supposed to be black, but I got sent a white one.

Just bought a new PSU last night, an Antec TrueControl 2.0 550Watt. I'm not really that happy with it so I'm probably gonna return it and get a PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI.

Before that, it was my second 6800GT to complete the SLI config.

An X600 eh? That should do you ok for now, and it's PCIe so you have a good upgrade path for the R520 that's coming soon. I have the 9800 pro which is a bit better, and still does fine. But, mand when the R520 comes out, man, that's going to own.

Oh, Jedigreddo, don't get a 5500. it's just a slightly higher clocked 5200. If you plan on doing any gaming at all at least get a Radeon 9550, or 9600. A 6600GT would be preferable, even if you're on a tight budget. Remember, friends don't let friend buy Nvidia FX cards.

My last purchase was a Geforce 6600GT.

No, your AudioPenis is only bigger, has more holes and other features useless to me. I bet mine sounds better. Not to mention once I get it hooked up to a Gilmore Dynahi and my HD600. You'll have a tough time beating that, hahaha.

I'll be sure to check those out. The reason I was going to go with that Nvidia card is a friend actually bought it a couple months ago and has had no problems with it, even playing Unreal Tournament 2005.

Yeah, but was it with all the goodies on? I bet not. It's 2004, BTW. :)

The A/D/A converters in Motu's gear are vastly superior to those found in Creative and Emu cards. There's a reason why Motu's gear costs more than other feature-equivalent products (my 828mkII vs. the Echo Layla 3G). The converters will easily drive up the price of an audio interface, just look at RME's gear.

Mine's hooked up to a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M40fs cans and a pair of Emes Kobalt monitors.

UT2k4 runs with full goodies at 1280x1024 on my 9600xt. I bet a 5500 could probably do a decent job at UT2k4, but there's much better for the money now.

DO NOT BUY IT.

It sucks.

What's your budget for it? I suggest a 9600 pro, 9600xt, or 6600GT. www.newegg.com

And your friend might not have problems with UT, but check out his framerate on HL2, FarCry, Doom 3, and other such games.

My latest was San Adreas. I beat the storyline missions and now can't bring myself to go back in to get 100%, too much drudgery. I'll let it sit for a while and then replay later until it absolutely sickens me to do so (ala Morrowind).

I was thinking of getting an Nvidia 6600 cause my friend has one and says they are good. Is it worth the money to just get a 6800 for a bit more?

-Half Life 2. It was either that, or a batch of beer. I think I made the right choice.

-Replacing my LG DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and I have to do it again:mad: I hate faulty technology.

Next I'll either get a DVD-RW, or a new hard drive. My current HD was making odd sounds a little while back, but now it seems to have gone back to normal. I'll have to decide what to do before the warranty runs out.
