JK on Linux

and it works :) I don't now if anybody cares - still I am happy

I tried it once before, but when I activated the hardware acceleration it was extremely slow. Now, with Wine 20050524 it runs smoothly. And even JED works... so perhaps I will come back to edit JK :)

The installer works

You don't have permission to access /matyy/bilder/ on this server.

[Ninja-Edit:] Oh, you've already seen it.

Hmmm, perhaps I should try editing.
Sorry for the lousy German

Yes, only in Windowed mode. I couldn't make it run fullscreen yet. JK stops, and wine has something with that it couldn't set the display to 8bpp.

I wrote a wiki entry on the German Ubuntuusers.de Wiki
http://www.ubuntuusers.de/wiki/spiele:wine_cedega:star_wars_-_dark_forces_2_-_jedi_knight

It's not hard at all (else I wouldn't have made it :) )

Shall I translate it?

Okay, you Linux JK-editing slackers, no more excuses for you not to be editng and playing JK. :P

Yikes, that means more work for me, as I will now need to port any of my JK-related programs to Linux. :D

:)

Very nice effort there. Must have been all my help in the chat... ;) But the most important question is... how's it play? Any slowdowns or anything like that?

Tastey.

Please do translate it! :)
That painting was a gift, Todd. I'm taking it with me.

Yet when I post this [http://imagecorner.sorrowind.net/7/1.jpg] Way back in July of last year, no one cares :(

JED and JK have ran in Wine for helluva long time. In addition, it will play in fullscreen with no problems, along with 3D acceleration, and plays without a hitch. If anything I think it runs faster.

As for JED, its a tad slower, depending on what rendering device you use (I used OpenGL just to make everything simple). But its perfectly usable, although getting it to start the first time can be a complete pain in the ***.

As for getting JK to work, the biggest issue is that the no-cd trick rarely works in linux, so you have to pop that CD in.

Well, JK was working for me, but now I get that "ERR_CANNOT_LOAD_FILE" error on start... :(
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I got both Jed and JK to work on MANDRAKE the first day I got Mandrake..

Beat that.

The first thing I had to do was to get the cd drive correctly configured. The rest went without problems. I just posted this because when I did it the first time, a half year ago, JK was very slow with 3d accelartion turned on. I was looking for help, but it seemed noone in those linux channels was interested in JK and noone in #massassi seemed to really care for linux :) I just tried it again with wine 20050524 and it worked without problem, so I tought it was wine.

But anyhow, does someone know more about directplay with wine? It doesn't seem to work.
