So, January this year. My friends and I agree that roleplaying during the school year is too stressful. We agree to wait until summer.

Then comes May. My friend says, "Hey, Josh, we're going on a float trip, probably around the end of June. Want to come?"

"Sure," I say. "Sounds lurvely."

Three weeks ago, said friend calls. "Josh, we're doing the float trip on the 25th and 26th. Sound doable?"

"Righty-o," I say. "I shall request those days off from work!" I inform my January friends of this development.

Hurrah!

Today, one of my January friends says, "Keep the 25th and 26th open for roleplaying."

I remind him of the float trip. He goes ballistic. "You're killing our GM!" "You and your damn leisure trip!" "Why are you ditching us?"

I say, "I'm not going to ditch the float trip."

"I'm not asking that of you." Bull****.

I say, "Don't lecture me on this. I'll see if I can get in afternoon on Sunday."

"I'm not holding a gun to your head. You don't need to do that." Bull****.

It's a ****ing leisure activity. Forgive me if I'd rather spend two days with friends on the river than try to keep every ****ing weekend open for roleplaying that hasn't even ****ing started yet. God damn it, people piss me off. If they can't get the God-damned perspective that it's a ****ing passtime and not some ****ing way of life, then they can find themselves another ****ing player, because I'm not putting up this ****.

Somehow Pugler editted your post before you made it... ? :p

I hate people who expect you to give all of your free time to them. My old bandmates were like that. As soon as I wasn't working or at school, I was expected to be with them. I quit, and then the band broke up cause they couldn't replace me. Yes. I'm THAT GOOD. /rant

Replace 'bandmates' with 'girlfriend' and 'the band' with 'we' and then add the part where she comes crawling back, realizing that asking me to be with her during my free time was silly, and because she needs the [organisms].

One that originated from Jedi Knight, no less.

I sympathize. Good GMs are a rare breed, and as they are neccessary for playing RPG's, their absence is felt more strongly than any player's. When I used to GM D6 Star Wars RPG for my friends, they would get pretty upset if I wasnt available on a certain date.

I dont think he means real-life. I think he mans pen and paper, like Dungeons and Dragons. Not Live Action Role Playing (LARPing).

Yes, PnP Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Not LARPing...

what does a GM do?
2005-06-17, 12:36 PM #16
The players control what their characters say, do, and think. The GM controls everything else - the world, the NPCs, rulesmaster, etc.

I'm not the GM - I'm a player. But, apparently, my GM's very life depends on the playing of this game! It's the same kind of drama I got when I started to collect White Wolf books - apparently, her being the sole collector of White Wolf books was her "life."

Note: the guy who I talk about is a former boyfriend of said GM and still hasn't really gotten over their breakup.

Good choice, roleplaying is just beyond my understanding...It's just so...wrong. Go out and live life

Oh, I plan on roleplaying - I've got a NWN campaign with Burrie, and I plan on starting up a campaign with a friend and his brother once I get to college. But neither of these two give me the drama I've gotten from these people.

'Roleplayers' are just bad amateur actors.

I love this song, especially when amateurs sing the lyrics.

But I hate baseball cards.

Roleplay that you are someone who has kidnapped an annoying friend and tossed said friend into the river.
"We came, we saw, we conquered, we...woke up!"

Oh, now that reduces my understanding of the rpging even more.

IMO, posting on a Star Wars game based forum is not on the same level of nerdiness as any RPG. Only a tenth of the threads in the discussion forum have anything to do with Star Wars. As for Jedi Knight, the site only has a connection at the face, since the grand community has gracefully aged and shrunk (as opposed to that of JO or JA which shriveled within a year of each game's release date).

Although I love Star Wars, I am not a hypocrite.

:p

"I am not a crook!"

I'm proud to be a star wars geek/nerd/whatever you call it. Because if you laugh at me, I will kill you. Literally.
