Formula 1 Indianapolis Race

Any formula 1 fans in the US? any who actually went to watch the race? What do you think and what of the future of Formula 1 in the US

For those that don't follow formula 1, there are currently two types of tire manufactures in the series, Michelin and Bridgestone.

A problem has arisen with the Michelin tires in that Michelin has said it is unsafe to run their tires in the race and as such all Michelin runners have withdrawn from the race, leaving just 6 cars running, from 20.

You can read the whole sage here and I'd just like to add how utterly stupid this whole affair is.

Yeah it really, really, really stinks. I was morbidly curious to see what a race with 6 runners would be like, but this is beyond rediculous.

I seriously hope the Ferraris take each other out (hah, as I type this they almost did). Apparently Minardi and Jordan were both willing to compromise, but Ferrari were stubbon in saying they did everything right and the other teams should be punished.

The Michelin teams obviously should pay for their error, but forcing them to not even field a car is farcical. There really should have been some arrangement formed, what has happened is a dissaster for the sport.

haha, that would have been sssoooooo funny...

yeah both Minardi and Jordan were willing to allow the building of a chicane to enable the running of the other cars but Ferrari wouldn't have it...

There has been many occasions that Ferrari have benefited from standing by the FIA when what the FIA is trying to enforce is ridiculous, another prime example.

I don't blame Minardi and Jordan for running, its their best chance to get a big pay check and points, but as for Ferrari, their actions over the past few seasons and the fact they appear to get preferential treatment from the FIA does not make me like them.

I would say this is not the best kind of publicity for Michelin...

It's a shame that CART racing has all but disappeared.

Well there's a difference between Formula 1 Race-grade tires and tires for your car. :p

I don't blame the teams or drivers: the FIA should've put in the chicanes to curb the speed to prevent accidents like Ralph Schumacher's. The stubborn idiots got what they deserved, a crap race with only themselves to blame.
2005-06-19, 4:24 PM #10
I agree. The teams diddnt want to put their drivers in danger and the FIA diddnt want to make the race safe fo the drivers on mitchelling tyres so it's their fault. Ok, mitchelin is partly to blame... but they admitted there was a problem and offered several alternatives which most of the teams agreed on. It was just the FIA and their overly strict rule enforcement which caused the 6 car race.

As a MotoGP/Champcar fan, I thought it was all mildly hilarious...

Wish I'd taped it in fact.

-edit Just found out that Champcar have made US '05 GP tickets redeemable at the Champcar event at Cleveland next weekend.

Yeah, the Canadian GP is always much better anyway: the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit is so damn fast...

The FIA is now trying to sue the teams for not racing....will the madness never end....

i thought it was resolved that a tyre could be changed if it was dangerous! thats what was said on ITV when montoya crashes out a couple of weeks back!?!
2005-06-21, 2:48 PM #18

When they're considered dangerous, tires can only be changed to one of the same type. The choice of which type of tire to run for the entire weekend cannot be changed after qualifying.

As every single Michelin tire of the type selected by all the teams was unsafe, there was no way within the current rules that the teams could legally change thier tires to a safe alternative.

:(

Indy racing is so much better than nascar.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
