I want to hitch my two computers up so I can transfer and share files. I have a crossover cable, and had the computers recognizing eachother, I think. But I really have no idea what I'm doing. Any tips?

Windows 2000 or XP I assume on both (and would hope)?

Simply go to the network properties(control panel, network connections, right click on connection, properties) for the network card on each PC and enable File and Printer sharing.

Then take whatever folders you want to share and go to their properties and the sharing tab. Enable sharing.

Then to see the other PC's shared folders, simply go to explorer and type "\\netbiosnameofotherpc" Or you can type "\\ipaddressofotherPC"

If you don't know the netbios name, right click my computer, properties, computer name tab, should be called Full computer name in XP. In 2000 it's somewhere in my computer properties, but I don't think there's a computer name tab. Can't remember but it's not hard to find.

Then you can also do stuff like map the other PC's shared folders as a drive and other crap I don't feel like typing out.

To find out the ip:

Start>run>"cmd">ipconfig

Or you could just open "My Network Places" *raisedeyebrow*

You guys seem to be making it a bit more confusing than it needs to be.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Doesn't always work.

Either way, he still has to do what Darth told him in the first place as far as allowing filesharing.

Ok, I'll try what Darth said in the morning.
