Stupid prank call
2005-06-23, 10:20 PM #1
So some punk kid just called my house and began speaking Spanish, but obviously wasnt Spanish. Him and his gf began laughing in the background and hung up.

Only one problem.

See, the phone rang twice, caller ID picked it up, and I now know there home address. Thank you whitepages.com.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

So... instead of doing something about it or just going back to whatever you were doing before, you post this on Massassi?

do you have a problem with everyone that calls you?

Seriously, maybe they called once and dialed the wrong number by accident. The second time they called maybe they dialed wrong again (it can happen!) and they thought it was funny they messed up.

And now you have their address. What are you going to do? Show up at their house and yell at them for calling you?

Or you could be a good person and heed MBeggar's words. But that's less fun I think.

No these kids were being stupid and purposely dialed it. I asked like 3 times "What?" and he kept talking. Anyway I called 911 and the woman told me if they call again to call 911 back, or call them back and speak to the parents and if they call back, call 911.

The address illustrates a point though. If you prank call someone, apologize and hang up, say it's a mistake. It happens. Seriously, what if they did that to some guy who is already in a bad mood, and goes over and beats the hell out of them?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I think he should leave them a carefully worded note, designed to strike fear into their hearts. Who knows, maybe it will do some good by scaring them into never prank calling again.

[WTQ? YOu called 911 over a prank call? Isn't that a bit... excessive? 911 is for emergencies.]
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

oh of course, because people dont make mistakes dialing phone numbers ever and people are most definatley out to get you and annoy the hell out of you.

I dont know man, people dont take the time out of their schedules to annoy me over the phone :( I feel left out.

Wow, you dialed 911? Are you some 60 year old woman? Seriously, it's just some punks prank calling, at the worst. Chill the eff out.

Look I called 911 and immediately told the woman it's not an emergency. If these kids continue calling others tonight, and 911 gets another call from these kids' number, then it becomes a harassment charge. I'm not calling so much to get revenge, but if an officer were in their immediate area, he could stop in and say "Quit it" and leave. I'm not out to hire a frigging lawyer and take them to court.

"Hello 911?"
"This is not an emergency"
"Oh okay" *click*

you do know that Police stations have local numbers that are not 911 right? that would have probably been a better way. Also, whitepages.com and stuff like that arent always accurate. Police have their own way of tracking numbers which is probably better (plus id think they dont want you getting involved since you already seem farily annoyed aobut this)

And your saying after 4 calls youre going to charge them for harrassment???

I want to know what your definition of extreme is.

You call the police for something like that, not 911.

I never said I was the one pressing the charges. The cops would file the harassment charges themselves with them. I was merely pointing it out, that way a cop who could be in the area could swing in, tell the kids to knock it off and leave. Nothing more. Honestly I won't lose sleep over this and I merely was pointing it out.

My friends and I used to call random people and speak Spanish (or German, or French.) We also used to order pizzas for delivery from Taco Bell/Pizza Huts.......ah good times.

Get revenge - prank call em back with your number blocked. Ask 'em if their refrigerator is running.

Harrassement charges over a few prank calls?

Lighten the **** up buddy...seriously. I can't even believe you called 911 over a prank call...that's pathetic and sad.

411 is your friend.

Or you could have looked it up online. I'm sure your city, if it's somewhat moderate in size, has a homepage and a directory or phone numbers.

THRAWN, that's understandable, but obviously you didn't take the time to think through your excuse before posting it. A few minutes ago, you mentioned whitepages.com. What the heck do you think they store in that database? Social security numbers?

There's plenty of phonebooks online. You know that whitepages site? You ever think to look up the police station's phone number there?

Then they had it coming to them. Which is if it got bad enough, something I would do.

Prank calls have been around forever, its all in good fun. If someone cant take a joke, thats pretty sad. Although, this applies only if the calls dont get out of hand and remain all in good fun, which unfortunately nowadays kids dont exactly go by.

Well I get prank called all the time. Not just that broad that called a few weeks ago at 3 am. I had some girls calling me from a cell phone a few weeks ago, they called me like 10 times in 5 minutes asking if I speak Spanish. When I called back I said "For a girl who can't speak English, your voicemail sure sounds amazing." Oh, wanna know WHY they called me so much? See, the first time was an accident, but the girl thought I sounded hot. So she kept calling back ON HER FRIEND'S CELL phone to talk to me, but rather than saying "Hi, you sound hot" she kept saying "No English, Espaniol" over and over. As soon as I hung up, they called right back. Finally I got through to them and the girl who owned the phone said her friend thought I was hot, and as soon as they found out I was 6 years older (I.E. they were jailbait) she said nevermind and I hung up.

Truth of the matter is I'm sick and ****ing tired of these little snots calling my house thinking it's all in good fun. I'm sick of waking up at 3 am and answering my phone, or coming home and listening to the machine and some stupid slut left sex noises on my answering machine because I had taken the phone off the hook. Oh, yeah, did I not mention that one? Yeah, some broad called my house, apparently someone I know put her up to it, and began moaning on the machine.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

If someone is annoying you, and you have the capability, block their number. If they call you again from another phone in an attemot to get around your block, then you can start getting serious.

Block their number.

Return the prank phone calls.

Find their address and report them.

Get your parents to go to their house.

But I do agree, if it is getting to be too much, as I said, this is where the fun becomes stupidity and damaging.

I meant that if they called you once, did a little prank, and hung up and that was that, forgotten forever after a few laughs. Not constant calling, if they are constantly calling then yeah, that's bad.

Bravo.

BUT THAT IS FOR THE UNIVERSITY POLICE. I don't live on campus thus I would not call the university police, and even if I did, that area would fall out of their jurisdiction.

Truth of the matter the kids live only like 8 minutes away. The campus is about 10 miles the opposite direction. I am living right between them.

911 is for emergencies and emergencies only. It doesn't matter if you don't have the local precint's number on hand. You're occupying a 911 operator's line that could be potentially used for an emergency. It doesn't matter how many free 911 operators there are, it's a matter of principal. You don't call 911 when there isn't an emergency.

Oh, and if you didn't know the number, dial 0. Clever, isn't it?

Yes, it is very clever.

Dialing 0 though in my area won't get you jack. I've dialed 0 many times and they told me they can't give out telephone numbers. I am not joking either, swear to God. There is some other number you are supposed to dial in my area to get phone numbers like that.

I seriously doubt that. If you call the operator and ask for the police non emergency line, they will give it to you. Maybe they said they can't give out private telephone numbers, which is probably true because certain people can choose to be unlisted etc.

How ridiculous! Your operator service sucks!
2005-06-23, 11:53 PM #39
Irrelevant. It's no excuse to dial an emergency line for a non-emergency issue. Go look it up, or if you can't find it, go punch a pillow.
