Lines in the Original Trilogy given new meaning
2005-06-24, 9:26 AM #1
Since the Prequel Trilogy is finally complete, I've noticed a lot of the Original Trilogy lines have been given new meaning and new ways to look at them.

My favorite is what Obi-Wan said in ROTJ:

Obi-Wan: "Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."

Anakin in ROTS: "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!"

I also like what Yoda said in ESB: "Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future...the past. Old friends long gone."

That little guy felt the presence of everyone of his Jedi friends die, including Mace and all of his Youngling students.

What are your favorite lines from the OT given new meaning?
"I'm afraid of OC'ing my video card. You never know when Ogre Calling can go terribly wrong."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" as screamed by Luke. Yelling like a complete wimp runs in the family, apparently.

Psh, Mace didn't die. He's a hard guy, man. It's gonna take more than gettin shocked and thrown out a window to kill him.

I always found it interesting that Moff Tarkin remarks that Vader is "the last of that ancient religion," referring to the Jedi. This indicates one of two things:

  • No one knows that the Emperor can use the Force
  • Lucas didn't think about it

I would go for the fact that the Emperor would want to keep his force powers secret because if people found out early on that he had force powers questions would be raised as to if he had manipulated events for his own gain.

Plus people have never wanted the Jedi running things but instead what they perceive to be a "normal" everyday person.
People of our generation should not be subjected to mornings.

Well, during the prequels, Palpatine does conceal his ability to use the force, even after he has declared himself to be Emperor. It's not that surprising, then, that he would continue the facade during the OT.

I'm pretty sure he's dead. I think he died before he was flung out he window, because he goes limp from all of the Sith lightning right before he's thrown out.

I wish Yoda had taught him how to absorb lightning, like in AotC. I loved watching Yoda saberfight with Dooku, despite the fact that it was short. He was like a little flying ninja monkey of death!

Yeah, I just finished rewatching the OT... there are lots of things that make more sense now that I didn't think about before the prequels.
DO NOT WANT.

Perhaps he meant the Jedi since Vader was once a Jedi, but the Emperor never was.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I rather like how the line Yoda says - "Until the time is right, disappear we will." brings a whole new feel to the ANH scene with ObiWan, Luke, and Liea - "Help me, ObiWan Kenobi..."

Watch Obi-Wan's reactions during the scene. He looks like he's realizing not only that he needs to go save Liea, but that the Force has brought both of Anakin's children back to him, and that "the time is right" for him to reappear.

Just a thought.
Frightening the very small and very old since 1952.

Vader is an ex-Jedi, Palpatine isn't.
