Kyle Katarn vs. Luke Skywalker
2005-06-24, 2:27 PM #1
Okay, time for the weekly Anovis Poll. Which is not really posted weekly! So anyways, who would win in a fight? Kyle Katarn vs. Luke Skywalker? Or more so, who is the better Jedi? Even better, WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE JEDI?

A Jedi that undoubtfully found a lightsaber at home, trained his pwNing skills on his very own robot WeeGee...was giving Force Powers over time for no reason other than completing objectives he keeps in his personal organizer.., Went to the Dark Side for a while, had to be rescued multiple times by Mara Jade and Jan Ors, and likes his Bryer Pistol equally or more than his lightsaber.

He did, however, saved the universe from Jerec by sealing the Valley of the Jedi. Or did he....

Or...

A farmboy that was givin' a lightsaber that was owned by his father, has a strong sense in the Force via bloodline...trained with masters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda...brought an end to an entire Empire, and is an excellent pilot.

He did, however, kissed his own sister. French style.

So, who'd win if we made both go PvP?

This is a bad thing how?

Skywalker, obviously.

*very* hard to say. Based on the books, they are both good.

Kyle Katarn gets my vote. I'd love to see Luke hop on top of the moldy crow and down a TIE Fighter with a sawed-off bryar rifle.

Kyle's a cooler character, but I don't know who's the better Jedi.
Pissed Off?

Are you people serious? This is a total no brainer. Kyle Katarn did nothing for the galaxy that any other Joe Shmo Jedi from back in the days of the Old Republic didn't do on a daily basis. Sure, he's a cool character, sure, he's had his moments...but you can't even comapre the two when it comes to most powerful!

Luke Skywalker is the chosen one. He brought balance to the force, bringing light to the galaxy. He trained thousands of Jedi, with only a few years of tutleage from old guys, and his natural ability with the Force. They never verbally state it in the OT, but I firmly believe that Luke's medichlorian count was more than Vader's was. So, all in all, Luke would PWN Kyle any day of the week.
I heart everything Star Wars (almost).

He could, but would he?

Kyle and Luke both fuel their combat with hate and anger, so they're evenly matched there.

Also, Kyle's lightsaber is yellow. That's neat.

Luke doesn't fuel his battles with anger. That happened once, and never again. How can you forget this line:

"No...I am a Jedi, like my father before me." **throws away Saber**

I have to go with luke. SW is the ONLY thing where I've ever liked the main character more than any of the other characters. I don't know why, but luke is a very cool coming of age character. Kyle is just sort of boring, really.

Kyle has all the wisecracks and badass-ery, Luke has all the actual skill.

Having just watched the original trilogy, I say Luke, because he actually had to overcome some kind of emotional conflict and he won. And, have you ever read the Dark Empire trilogy of comic books? He's so awesome in that.
DO NOT WANT.
2005-06-24, 3:49 PM #15
I admit Luke is awesome, but in the Dark Forces books Kyle is pure awesome, not just awesome.

in the way u look at it luke isnt the chosen one.........
to bring a balance to the force well u got to even the sides.......
there are 2 sides to the force......
the dark....
the light.............
and the word balance means equal

and in a way vader did that, he brought down the jedi almost down to the sith level, then went to far.

Hmm...I voted before I saw it was for whos the better Jedi. I voted Kyle, but better Jedi = Luke. Better one overall = Kyle.

Do you think Luke would've been able to do all those jumping puzzles? He can't even guard his own body parts. :p

There are a bunch of arguments about this. I'm wrong, but I like my opinion that Vader was the chosen one and evened it out like you said. Then, as you said, he took it too far. Luke took them both out, being the only living jedi left, he was a Jedi, not a good jedi fighting for his own personal gain of peace [as done mistakingly by the Jedi in the NT] and not a dark jedi like the sith [also for their own personal gain of peace through power], but a jedi of balance and equality among all.

I think that his teachings in the Jedi Academy are far more nuetral and far less oriented towards order.

Qui Gon was, I think, an important preacher of this idealogy. Mace is the perfect example of a 'too' good jedi. Qui Gon understood that prophacy had to be met. If he hadn't died, I think that Anikin would have maintained a consistancy in the galaxy by whiping out the sith and reforming the jedi council with his way-changing methods.

But I'm more than likelly incorrect, as I've heard far more applicable interpitations of the 'balance' prophacy.

Luke, I think he's a badass at the beginning of Return of the Jedi.
2005-06-24, 4:35 PM #21
Bad *** Kyle Katarn from the original Dark Forces owned all. Just look at that crap eating grin on his face, you know he's a bad mofo with that look.

Luke would still win though.

Edit:

Vader is the chosen one, not Luke. The fat man said this himself, that when he killed Palpatine at the end of RotJ he fulfilled the prophecy.

It's younger kyle from Dark Forces.

I'd say Luke. I play better with him on multiplayer :p

He just has the skills, and he's teaching Kyle at the academy (every now and then...) I think Luke knows a few more moves.

Does anyone know what book has the emperor clone(s)? I've heard about it, but never found it or a title.

The fat man being George, obviously...
I said this numerous times on a previous thread but it seemed to have been ignored b/c people were STILL debating who the chosen one was for 2 pages!

And although Kyle is pretty cool, Luke would win any day of the week. Hands down.

Pfft, Han is so much more a bad *** than Kyle ever will be.

Unless it's DF Kyle. I mean look at that scowl. You just know he doesn't take no nonsense from nobody. His default expression is a determined scowl, like he's prepared to introduce you to the business end of his shoe if you look at him wrong.

Actually, I have read the books. Luke overcame all of that. Which just reinforces his stregth as a Jedi. LUKE > KYLE!

Overcame all that? He literally beat somebody into submission with his lightsaber (For reasons I can't remember off the top of my head. I only remember bits and pieces of books)

I doubt pushing somebody back, screaming, and slashing in the same direction over and over isn't the coordination of a Jedi. (This is, of course, against another saberist.)

They both have their moments of "grrr", which is always welcome in my eyes. But since Kyle is skilled in both classes of weapons, I think he's much better. You have to remember that Kyle *did* ride the top of the moldy crow at a high speed through a canyon, and took out a TIE Fighter with one shot from his bryar. That has to count for something.

Luke is not skilled in both classes of weapons? In ANH he's barely away from his farm and already he knows how to use a blaster rifle and fly an X-Wing without practice. Then he blew up the Death Star, that sure takes some skill.
Kyle had to go to the Imperial Academy to develop these skills.

Luke: What's the matter master? Is there a disturbance in the force?

Yoda: No. Screwed you sister have you.

nope.
