Here's the lowdown...

A friend of mine has been feeling down for awhile, and seeing as how she lives in Maine and I live in North Carolina, there isn't much I can do right now other than call her or talk to her online. Last night though, I figured out something we could do together that might take her mind off things for at least a little while.

She LOVES fighting games. Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, things of that nature. However, I'm totally "blind" (for lack of a better word) as to what's available for PC in that department. She said awhile back that while she WOULD play a straight up shooter, fighting games are more her thing. So basically, I'm looking for either a free, or really really cheap fighting game we can play over the internet... OR a mod for a somewhat cheap or free FPS game that'll simulate it.

In terms of her computer, I think it's a roughly two year old HP, which means system specs probably aren't anything spectacular.

So... any suggestions?

Fighting games and PC... good luck finding a decent one. I don't think I've seen one in the past couple years.

So I think you'll have to go with a FPS.

Though Oni might be a good choise..

Oni has no multiplayer.

i could recommend a few, but none of them support online play. i'm not even sure that there's a PC fighting game in existence that does...

There's a PC fighting game called Melty Blood that I've played. It's pretty descent, and might be worth looking into. Not sure where you can find it though...

That, or get a nice 3rd person game with fighting elements. Enter the matrix, is an example (albiet a poor one).

We'll be going through NC on our way to NH next month..want to hop on the roof and tag along? :p

EDIT: they do have Grand theft auto for PC, too. But I never played it. And Enter the Matrix is NOT a poor example!!!!
