My god that game looks awesome. Celshading FOR THE MF'N WIN!
Think while it's still legal.

I thought the point of improving on gaming systems was to IMPROVE graphics.... why not just make this game on SNES?

It's meant to look like a comic book. We don't want ALL of our games to look super realistic if it calls for cartoons.

yeah, I am all about being artistic with things.. a good example is sin city... it was very comic book-ish and I knew it was done to be artistic, and I enjoyed it.... But sin City wasn't a cartoon either.... I have been waiting for a video game where I could play as venom or carnage, or atleast have them in it, and it not look like a cartoon.... (I have played Maximum Carnage before)

and I hated cell shading when they did it to link (thank got for the new game), and now, I REALLY hate it..

personally, i LIKE cell shading, who cares about the level of detail in the texures when you can have a decent story? besides, some of use don't bother to have the detail level set that high :P

If you can't enjoy cell shading, or see that it is a graphical improvement, you just suck.

PS, the game looks awesome.

Cel shading looks better in motion.

Looks interesting.

Cel Shading is AWESOME. Windwaker was one of the better Zelda games, IMO.

Cel shading sucks.

This game looks better though. If it has free reign I'll get it.

Don't the textures look a lil detailed for a cel shaded game?

And it looks pretty good.
nope.
2005-06-27, 2:44 AM #19
I like cel shaded graphics, actually. It wouldn't RUN on SNES for the obvious reasons.

Cel Shaded games that are amazing:
XIII
Wild ARMs 3
Zone of the Enders 1/2
Windwaker (although I've never played it)

Be sure to add some to the list, I know for a fact that I'm missing a lot.

There was a car combat game called Cel Damage.

It's pretty fun.

So you hate Cell shading? Then maybe I shouldn't introduce you to Spider-Man 2003. But hay! The game looks cool! I think it looks just like the 2003 series!

I always thought that games that used cel shading was because the texture artist they had didn't know how to use any other program but mspaint.

That's actually a really crappy assumption. What cel shaded games have you played? Definatly not Wild ARMs 3 that's for sure.

Cel Shading can look absolutely amazing when done right. I was blown away at some of the sights in Wind Waker. There was a beautiful Cel Shaded game, for the PS2, previewed at E3 this year. It was made to look like old japanese paintings, and it pulls it off very well.

This Spiderman game however, looks bad. The Cel Shading is fine, but the characters have a weird, round look to them, like those anime Saturday morning cartoon. That's not my Spiderman.

Are cel-shaded games much easier to make than non cel-shaded games?
"I'm afraid of OC'ing my video card. You never know when Ogre Calling can go terribly wrong."

I doubt it. From my experiance cel shaded games run a lot smoother and have more detailed animations / explosions. Plus there are those "OMG COMIC BOOK CUT OUT" pop ups with animations and stuff in them, which could be hard to program. I highly suggest you play the PC version of XIII sometime.

Cel shading does usually have MUCH smoother animations. I have also noticed that in every cel shading game I have played collisions are more accurate. But that could be totally unrelated.

I think it looks quite good, but I see your point. It's hard to say which would have been better though for this game- more traditional animation vs. cel-shading.

They both have their appeal, but in different ways. I think this is the sort of game that could go either way. Both could work well.

Well, then I guess the game is spot on, and my complaint is with the comic. Of course, I'll still play it. It's Spiderman!

Maybe they've changed things, but the Ultimate Spider-Man comics used to be drawn a lot better than what's in that game. It just doesn't look right to me.
