I hate BF1942 so much right now

I really want to play BF1942 online, but I can't seem to be able to do it. I got the patch and all that and it seems the in-game server doesn't work, so I installed Gamespy to try it that way. Well, the game loads but as soon as it is done, it freezes. The same seocnd of sound just keeps repeating over and over and nothing happens. How can I solve this or is there another way to play online?

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game?

Drivers, directx, etc all up to scratch? Video card? Sound card?

The only thing that could be deficient is the processor. I have a 1.6 ghtz processor but that doesn't affect my other games that are more advanced than BF1942.

I used to play it on our old computer which was a 1.2 Athlon and never had any issues like that, so I wouldn't worry about it being the processor.

The new patch ruined it for me... the whole game ran fine for me before 1.6, and now it just flat out wont work. Wont start up or anything. Of course EA tech support wont admit that the latest patch was a mistake, and they try to convince me that my computer has issues...

The game is boring now with more lamers than play CS... I'd see it as a blessing in disguise.
