World of Warcraft has 2 million subscribers (as they say on the main site) Are they really making 29 MILLION DOLLARS a month?!?! (14.99 per month correct?) Thats 359 million a year. Thats a freaking insane amount of money. Can someone enlighten me on whether or not there is a lot of tax on the money they are making or whatever?

Thats 1 BILLION dollars on the 50 dollar game itself. Where is this money going?

Yeah, you forget they had to pay programmers, it was a long time in development, servers, bandwidth, continued development, I mean...there's gonna be a big payoff for all the programmers who worked on it, but you forget it's not just one man making all that money.

True, but theyve made over a billion dollars easily. Surely programmers for this game are not millionaires? I want to be a programmer.

Some of that money goes to Blizzard for other costs like other game development, marketing, etc.

I think you've got a jaded outlook on this. There's more than programmers--artists, design, team leaders, modellers, level makers, texturers. Hundreds of people can go into making a game, and then there's taxes, which usually knocks about 30 or 40 per cent of profits off, so you're looking at a lot less than you think.

I wish my dad bought stock in Blizzard back when it started :( He says he regrets it now.

I imagine some people would be getting very rich off the nice little cash cow that WoW has become.

That said, an MMORPG would have a surprising amount of overheads.
