The most overrated JK multiplayer level
2005-06-29, 9:41 PM #1
To me, Canyon Oasis is very overrated, or it was back in the day. The map is good, but not great, IMO, and i don't see why so many people bothered to base so many of their maps on it . The texturing has always struck me as rather strange (why is there a valley of the jedi-style glyph mat being used as the floor in that area near the pool of water in the center?) There are plenty of other massassi-made maps that are just as good, if not better.

I agree with you, Pagewizard. I never found anything spectacular about it either. And there are many Massassi maps that are so much better.

Gameplay? And not to mention, this is the first online map ever played on JK. THere were no custom massassi maps by the time this was all the rage... on the zone. :(
DO NOT WANT.

'on the zone'

Some days in the old times. Well, at least for me.

Anyways, post the level you think is most overrated, and why!

JHS wasn't over-rated. It was loved because of the KWP shootouts there, which always were a blast (litterally).

I personally think Valley of the Jedi. I'm sure it was great when the game first came out, but now that we have alternatives to it, i don't see what's so great. It's a solid level, but it provides nothing special. just another saber dueling level.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I second the vote for JHS.

JHS is stupid.

weapon placement in that was the stupidest thing in the world

But for it's time it was one of the best user-made MP levels.

I always loved playing JHS.

I'm sure Det will chime in on how, dynamics wise, Canyon Oasis is one of the best deathmatch maps made for any game. And I'd agree with him.

Somewhat true, but hundreds of - perhaps over thousand - CO-remakes don't make it underrated or rated.

Why? Because you can keep running around in a circle and pick up all the power-ups and ammo and just keep doing that while killing people, not letting them have anything?

Anyway, most overrated Battleground Jedi.

JHS. Definitely. Maybe it was good for its time, but I have always disliked it. I don't see why people keep playing there. Besides, the idea was stupid, plus it looks ugly (i.m.h.o.).

CO is the best-designed MP level ever. If it didn't rely on breaking the laws of physics to give it its flow, I would give it a perfect ten.

1) I freaking loved JHS. KWP@JHS = instantaneous reason to play game

2) I'll put in a vote for JHS because the level design, texturing, etc really wasn't that spectacular .. it just happened to present a bunch of pretty fun situations that you could mess around in

Hmm...

Any of the custom levels people insisted on playing on the zone other than Drazen and Barons Hed RPG.

JHS.

Yes. It's still overrated in spite of the fact that most people think it's crap.
2005-06-30, 6:56 AM #24
JHS easily gets my vote. There were so many better levels... like the MLPs.

Canyon Oasis is a cult classic.

OGOMGOMGOMG someone mentioned JKRPG;p

*feels happy and proud for a moment*

To bad our JO rpg team went to hell.

Meh, if Nebula had been around in JA times, it would have been great since we got the mp open source!

Sorry Zloc, JHS is WAAAAY overrated. IMO.

Anyways, I'd have to say, yeah JHS is overrated... it really just wasn't that... good.

BTW, Who here as played Empire Night Club!?!? I used to love that map so much... especially while using ManoWars.
2005-06-30, 8:56 AM #30
JHS is so much fun. It lacks OMG looks, but it is so much fun. With the ninja mod on...it can't be beat.
Think while it's still legal.

I liked JHS. With KWP it was some fun gaming. Those were the days. No sound because I installed the wrong driver for my sound card to get JK to work. Dial up. :p. It was funny too, because for some weird reason, the lack of sound drivers kept other people from hearing me as well as preventing me from hearing. I kept getting accusations of hacking. :p

People kept releasing boring little maps with their highly taunted 16-bit textures. They were tiny and boring. Of course there were some good maps like that Naboo map. Cesar's palace provided great fun for my sister who spent her time playing through level 1 with mods and cheat or exploring Cesar's Palace or Jawa Dwelling SE. That map was humongous. Way too big for MP, but great fun to mess around with.

*re-installs Jk*
2005-06-30, 9:46 AM #32
Jawa Dwelling was amazing.

Most overrated? JHS. However, KWP at JHS was freaking amazing. Good times.

JHS was good because of its gameplay, nothing else. It was a soft level meaning that almost anyone could run the level due to the low level graphics of the level itself, the item placement was good and the non-stop carnage was what appealed to so many people, the scenario's you could play there were unlimited. I'm not saying i liked JHS im just stating the reasons why it was so popular.

As for my vote, I would have to go with purgatory, the level was so massive and the secrets were so many that in a small 2-4 player game you could easily wander for half an hour before sighting anyone, don't burn me, its just my opinion

Canyon Oasis/JHS are the most overrated, methinks.
I heart everything Star Wars (almost).
