I'll probably build my next rig in Early 07 when Longhorn comes out. It should be something like this:

OS: Longhorn
CPU: Duel/Quad Core 65nm 5800+ or something like that
GPU: R520 or R600 w/1gig of VRAM
PPU = very yes
RAM: 4GB of DDR3 RAM
HDD: 500GB 15K RPM HDD w/16MB cache
Blue-Ray/ HD DVD burner
CD drive (duh)
Case: Possibly a modded Antec ATC 220 or something.

Some games I'm looking forward to are:
AOE 3
UTK7
BoB by Oleg Maddox
Games based on the Unreal 3 engine, hopefully Rainbow 6 4 and the next JK style game.

I'll probably buy a (used) laptop before I go off to college, but aside from that I don't play video games any more and would have no use for a gaming rig.
2005-06-30, 7:15 PM #6
I dunno.... I'm thinking perhaps a four-chip mobo with quad cores on each chip, some sort of half-petaflop graphics card, a physics processing card, 200 gigs of RAM, a 500 terabyte hard drive, perhaps a quantum co-processor for breaking all that annoying encryption and doing incredibly fast sorting...

Ah god, who am I kidding. I'll probably just upgrade parts of my current computer until it can't run the newest games at 640*480 with all options off, then get something new... as for what I'll get, I have no idea.

UGGGG!!! MUST HAVE NEW COMPUTER!!! And then I can steal the video card out of this computer (it isn't great, but runs well enough) and replace it with its original nVidea TNT 2 32 mb so my parents can't do anything :p . SWEET! I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT UNTIL JUST WHEN I POSTED THIS! THERE IS ANOTHER $100 SAVED!! WOOHOOO! Maybe I will buy a computer sooner... yay! And there was much rejoicing... Anyway, the video card that I have is only a 128 mb ATI radeon 9000, but it certainly gets the job done for most of the games I play. I don't need anything special... I am sure most people here would disagree... But I want an AMD chip... I must ask you, Massassi, should I get 64 bit? and risk program incompatability? or should I get the good ol' (sort of) 32 bit? Hmmm.... Since I am saving on my vid card, I think I will go 64. Of course I will have 1 gb of RAM, and a SATA hard drive (don't worry, I am not crazy enough to buy another normal one that crashes all the time, I will buy SATA) <-- that comment just reflects my experiences with Maxtor...

DVD Drive

Game I'll be looking forword to:
AoE III

64 bit chips can run anything a 32 bit chip can run... Even in Windows XP x64 you can still run 32 bit apps.

XP64 hates some applications, it's slower, and is just not really worth it to upgrade to.

So should I get a 64 bit processor and just normal XP home?

I'll buy a new comp when the time comes, for short.

As for games... hm, perhaps a possible KotOR 3 and HL3 (and HL2: Aftermath). Too bad Eidos killed ION Storm, then I could add Deus Ex 3 to the list... those bastards.

I won't be building any new rigs and haven't looked forward to game for a loooong time now....
nope.

Chances are very good my current computer will still be able to play the latest and greatest games in 2007 at 1920x1200/full detail, since this thing is already a year old and the most ungodly powerful computers out there only have about 7 FPS over me in Doom 3....
2005-07-01, 9:11 AM #23
The only game that interests me in the future is Bioshock too. As it happens, I'm gonna buy a 12" Powerbook Superdrive in a couple of months once I've been paid...

mmmmmmm.......... prettymaaaaaac....

Do you mean a game with lightsaber combat or another game of the JK series? As for another JK game, I wonder when and what they will do. *stops self from going on a anti-JO/JA rant*

Well, for college I am going to get a new but pretty cheap laptop, basically one that is considerably strong in energy efficiency and is fast enough for my needs. Unfortunately, it will not be the gaming rig that will satisfy my hunger for the next few years.

For that rig, I will prepare it for . . . .

S.T.A.L.K.E.R., nothing else.

And seeing as that will run fine on a 2 Ghz AMD, 9800 pro and 512Mb RAM, no intention to upgrade system any time soon. I'll wait until they sort out a proper 64 bit version of Windows, and then start thinking about upgrading.

Only game i'm even looking forward to as of right now, is probably elder scrolls IV and that's about it.

And I just recently bought a brand new IBM thinkpad t42 and hopfully it'll show up sometime within the next month or so.

Xbox 360. I can't afford a new computer, and most PC games end up ported to Xbox anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing STALKER and CoD2 though for the PC. Those look cool
I had a blog. It sucked.

I don't care if ION Storm is gone. I'm still looking forward to the day when DE3 and Anachronox 2 come out.

As for systems, I'm gonna go and get me a Nintendo Revolution, baby!

Yup. 16-bit Windows (ie 3.1) support is gone or trashed or broken or something. Some InstallShield installers and REALLY old programs still use it. Mostly installers. You can tell cause Windows XP refuses to theme their windows.

Also, there are no 64-bit applications to speak of yet, except a 64-bit version of IE that's bundled with XP64. I hear the 32-bit version which is also bundled works better tho, and it's the default browser in XP64!

My stance is that there is no point in upgrading to a 64-bit processor until 64-bit processors/OSs/apps are more mainstream.
