There's a recurring pattern

The front door ALWAYS leads into the living room. Notable exception is the fresh prince of Bel-Air, which has an entry corridor, but you never see it, so it's only a partial exception. Characters always come on scene in the living room.

The living room ALWAYS leads into the kitchen and ALWAYS has stairs(this is important).

This is the most basic plan:

K-LR+D (Kitchen-Living Room with Door), as seen in
  • That 70's show
  • Married with children
  • The fresh prince of Bel-Air
  • Complete savages
  • Family ties

LR+D-K
  • Still standing
  • Grounded for life
  • Family matters
  • Boy meets world
  • Full house
  • So little time

See, my house doesn't work that way. I'm telling this... JUST IN CASE, okay?

Most houses are structured in these two ways (at least in the US), so it makes sense that TV sets would follow the same pattern.

None of the homes in my development are structured that way. Interesting.

This is true...and logical that the living room is connected with the stairs and kitchen.

It's also seen in cartoons such as Family Guy, The Simpsons, American Dad, etc.

[EDIT:] What's up with our google ads?

Wow, The Family Matters, Full House, and Boy Meets World Houses are the exact same layout.

You know most of those are sitcoms rather than soaps right?

Do they call it that in Eroupe? Or wherever Tenshu is?

(sorry, I forget)

In a great TV show called Arrested Development, the front door leads to a corridor with the living room branching off to the left and the kitchen at the very end. BTW, it's a hilarious show, y'all should see it. :D
DO NOT WANT.

Well, I just realized it may depend on what you consider a living room to be. Some houses have a "guest room" in addition to a "family room," both of which could probably be considered living rooms. :-\ Like... I have a friend who's house has a hallway at the front door which breaks off to a small guest room with not much in it other than stuff to sit on and a piano. (She seems to use it mostly as a music room, I would assume, since there are several other instruments in there). The hall goes into the kitchen, turning right there leads into a living room with more places to sit, and a TV. Because everyone needs lots of places to sit.

So... uh... yeah.

But like 99% of the homes in my area are structured with the front door leading into the living room. Mine actually has a bedroom to the right when you come in, too, straight ahead is a dining room with another bedroom on the right. Dining room goes into kitchen, which branches off into the bathroom, walk-in pantry, and back porch, which leads to the basement with two more rooms, one of which is my other bedroom. (Yes, I have two bedrooms of my own.)

So now that you all know the basic layout of my house, I think I should keep my doors dead-bolted.

o...k...

I think it's funny to have a bathroom connected to the kitchen, though. I can take a dump, then head directly to the fridge.

My living room isn't connected to the kitchen, and the stairs aren't connected to the living room.

The stairs are literally inches from the front door. In the entryway. The kitchen is attached to the dining room, which in turn is attached to the living room, but there are no doors separating them.
