Sounds like they are blaming games for most of their problems.

Especially the guy who 'couldn't concentrate'. Geez thats crap. He's just using games as a scapegoat.

That whole report just seems so ****.

Is it SO inconcievable to you, that someone could be addicted to computer gaming?

I mean... come on.. seriously.

It's already been proven.

I used to be addicted to EQ.

But I never experianced this:

I definately have some of those, Annie.

I'm an adict. :(

I play at least 5 or 6 hours of games a day during my days off, if not more, and I'm not showing any signs of addiction. It's only people of weak mind who really get 'addicted' and usually only to MMO's and whatnot.

Same. I can go weeks without games, and not even flinch. I'd rather be outside wandering the wilderness then gaming, but since I can't always do that, gaming it is. :)

Same here now.

Over the years, I just simply understand that MMO's are becoming crap.

You guys always brush stuff like this off as bull****, but IMO video game addiction can cause just as much problems as drug addiction, and it is sooo common. I mean, it makes you a complete social recluse with no life whatsoever and you can nothing out of it except 1337 skillz at your favourite video game. Video games are going to create a generation of socially illeterate shut ins with no motivation to do anything but play video games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not comparing him to a crack addict, it's nothing that bad. I'm just using an exagerrated example to illustrate my point that he might be in denial. If you spend 6 hours a day playing video games yet deny showing any signs of video game addiction, I think you are in denial.

It's usually people more prone to adiction that get addicted to things. There's always something.

So yeah, I play games all the time, and then I got my computer taken away for 3 weeks. So you know when I missed it? When I was at home which was almost never because I was either out with friends or just wandering around. You know, just because you have a theory that addiction to gaming exists doesn't mean that:

A) It does and

B) It applies to everyone.

Wow, and it's like people NEVER EVER get addicted to anything else, so because people are getting addicted to video games, THEY MUST BE BAD.

It always seems like if someone does something a lot and it's a good thing, it's called a hobby, or love. Like if I stayed indoors all the time making toys for orphans and never did anything else or ever wanted to interact with anyone, people would call me a hero and that it's a good thing.

The second someone does something like plays on the computer all the time, yet even stills mantains outside friendships and hobbies, he is still a computer addict.

When are people going to realize that video games don't make teenagers violent; bad parenting makes teenagers violent. If a kid plays GTA for the first time and then starts shooting people the next day, that kid has probably been ****ed up for a long time.

I think some of you have gotten so wrapped up in protecting video games and such from people who say they're brainwashing today's youth, that now you'll protect it from anything.

Addiction is truly possible some people. Realize that nobody right now is saying that anybody will get addicted to the internet or video games, you're jumping to conclusions. True, there are people out there who say stuff like that, but those are different arguments that aren't being repeated here. So you need to drop your guard.

I'm not trying to say you're wrong, but to not treat this as anything new. It's happened before, and, when something else becomes massively popular, the same stuff will happen.

Not only that, but have you heard of a guy called Fatal1ty? He's a big deal because he's a gamer even moreso than anyone here. He plays 8 hours a day, every day, and he's on the top in a lot of leagues.

Oh yeah, and he makes a 6 figure salary just being a pro gamer and is far from what I'd call a socially inept recluse.

Except that person would be contributing to society in a positive way. Playing video games accomplishes nothing for anyone. And I'm not talking about people who play a healthy amount of video games. I'm talking about the hardcore nerds who spend every free hour playing video games, and there are definitly some on this forum.

What's wrong with spending all your free time gaming? I mean, as long as you aren't planning on going out, you aren't going to be doing chores, you're not at school or working...why not? Oh wait, I could spend all day on a star wars forum instead. That's so much better. *stares*

There's nothing wrong with it then. If you want to be a social recluse go ahead. As for your little comment that I spend all day on this forum, I don't know where you got that. I spend the majority of my free time out with friends, or working on art etc. My post per day is less then 2 per day. Yours is 13 per day. Get a grip.

I type fast and have an opinion. And calling me a social recluse? You know when I do 90% of my gaming? After 11 at night. You wann know why? Because I'm not with friends. That's what I call my free time though--the time during which I really don't have to do anything else.

I totally forgot that point--so model airplanes contribute to society? Because last I checked people spent hours at a time making model airplanes. Man, they must be addicted. It's making them a social recluse.

'sides -- screwing around with friends results in a lot more property damage than being a hermit, so it could be argued that you're taking away from society.
