EVE online?

Has anyone ever played this game? It looks very sexy to me right now. I am going to download the free trial, but I would like opinions on this first. Please post if you have played this game what you can do, if the enviroments are nice, etc...anything about this game you have an opinion on.

For those who don't know what it is

Thanks :)

I've been eyeing this game very closely as well. It kind of seems like Freelancer in a bigger, persistent MMOG universe with more options. I hear it's somewhat of a grind, but very fun.

Also, I read this a few weeks ago, and it was super entertaining.

It's a hilarious story detailing the events that transpire when an uber-nerd gets his hands on EVE Online. Took me a while to read, but it's worth it!

If you like strategic fighting, tons of starship upgrades, near-nil storyline, and a HUGE-ARSE world, then yes.

Here's the benefits:

A. THE largest MMO world ever. There are no multiple servers. EVERYONE plays on the same world, in one gigantic galaxy.

B. You can do whatever you damn well please. (There are consequences for some actions, but hell, if your strong enough, you can take it) You can be a pirate, smuggler, goodie goodie guy, a manufacturer, a businessman, a swindler, etc. Tons of stuff. And no real "jobs" are assigned.

C. Completely unique gameplay. It's nothing like any game I've ever played, nor yours. It's ALL mouse though, keep this in mind.

D. 100 man combat = awesome looking.

Here's the drawbacks:

A. Hardly any storyline, especially at the beginning. The missions get repetitive for a bit if you plan on sticking with the same station and not moving around a lot.

B. You do not "fly" your ship, you navigate it. That's the best I can explain it. You click somwhere, you fly there. And theres a bunch of warps to go to missions and such.

C. Can get buggy at times.

D. Nothing happens fast. To go from one solar system to the next takes about 2 minutes. When you travel through a whole region, you're looking at over 30 minutes.

E. You gotta watch for real pirates. People who will steal your stuff. You have to watch your own butt out there.

F. Because it is so big, you can get the feeling of being lost.

G. The interface takes a while to get used to.

Anyway, I like it, I'm playing it now. But I recommend you take the 30 day trial for a run. If you don't like it, your only out $20 :/

I tried the 14 day trial but dropped it immediately, it was just too immense and complecated. It still looks cool but I'd definately have to sit down and read the manual before playing.

EVE seemed ok at first, but then I realized how much effort got me so little.

The game is a huge grind for more money and more money. Mining is boring as dirt, killing npcs is boring as dirt. You can't really make money in PvP. PvP is probably fun, but starting out you don't really find any small frigate battles or newbies fighting so you can't do that. The reason I don't sub for life is that no matter what you want to do it always ends up in a grind to get more money so that you can use that money for something fun. I want to have fun to have more fun, not spend 20 hours working towards 30 minutes of awesomeness.

I just happen to play EVE right now, started about 5 days ago. Done the 30 day trial a few years ago, yes the graphic blows, look fabulous, but the gameplay, sometimes gets boring.

I suggest you bring some of your online friend to play together, or find a few at early times. Staying alone playing against npc agents and enemies and doing mining alone gets boring real fast and repetitive, make you think wtf i'm doing in 3 days.

That said, I still feel a bit bored and it does take some time to get to the fun point having riding big ships with big guns with real people players, and that's what I'm trying to get to, to see if it's worth keep paying monthly.

I bet 30day trial gives you some ideas, but you should not just play alone, or you don't get the sweet part of the game at all.

If you want to join a corp, and get with some real people who've played this game for a LONG TIME, contact me. My ingame name is Saskumi.

Same goes for anyone else. Getting into a corp is the secret to having fun.

As for that story, wow, lame. I mean, the scam, sure, its a good story and all, but he really must have been a noob, with all the issues he had. Hell, 480 million ISK isn't even that much anymore, and kill missions are helluva better than they used to be. (The high level agents pay out millions per kill now)

Oh yeah, and that story does give a good lesson. Never trust anyone. The only time you give money is when you do not expect it back. If you want to trade, fine. Do it in a trade window, where you can see what you are getting. If it can't be done in a trade window, then the deal can't be done. Simple as that.

Unlike many MMO's, there's no real morality here. Ripping off other people is perfectly acceptable (it may piss people off, but it's acceptable), along with stealing their loot.

Yes, Zan. You have to "buy" the game first, then you get 30 days free.
