today I just got the router I ordered online! my brothers monopoly over the internet is no longer!

Took me an hour of fiddling, three or so hours of new halo 2 MP DM killtacular action and another 15 min of fiddling to get it working... but we now have internet on both computers!

yay.

Too bad your connection speed is now halved. That's the only downer I see with having two computers hooked up to one internet source. I find it easier to simply unplug and replug network cables.

It's only halved if both need it at the same time.
Sorry for the lousy German

Yep. I download at full speeds unless someone else on the network is doing some major downloading as well.

Indeed. And plus, if he knows the router password and the other brother doesn't, he can just kick the other brother offline for a while. :p

Yup. We've got five or so computers sharing our connection here.

I had 4 computers on the same connection back when I used to live at my parents, and we never had a problem. I could play mmorpgs while my dad downloaded a movie on his computer and neither had problems.

Is that why the internet always kicks you out of #massassi and #jkhub?

I'm on wireless here, got 5 computers hooked up. Doing fine here. :)

everything seems to be working just fine so far, my connection even seems faster then it was before, and because it's going through the router you no longer need to go through the whole opening the dialing thing and dialing in, as soon as the computer boots it's online... I like that.

My bro is not really home that often due to work anyway... so my conection should be decent most of the time.

Actually, that's not an accurate statement. Maybe if his total allowable bandwith was maxed out then he'd have problems. I have two computers, an XBox, and a color laser printer hardwired to my router and a wireless connection to a laptop. I typically have audio streaming on to PCs and my kid on the laptop. The only time I noticed significant lag was while playing Rainbow Six 3 on the Xbox with WinMX running on one of the PCs.

I've had broadband in my room since coming to college and I love it. Right now, we have about 20 computers sharing our connection. It really only gets bogged down if there's a lot of file sharing going on, or idiots let their compouters get bogged down with viruses and spyware.

me and my friend hooked up our computers at his house and had a mini-LAN and played some MOH:AA, and we both got the same connection, then I got off and he had the same connection.

Hmm. Well maybe that halved connection speed thing only happens to me. Even at times I know the rest of my family isn't on the computer upstairs, my connection speed is still halved. So I just have learned to unplug and replug LAN cables and it's all good.
