I leave tomorrow at 3pm to ship to basic training. I signed up for Infantry, so it should be a LOT of fun! I am really excited and I wish the community well. I go to Ft. Benning Georgia.

Wow. I had no idea. What other guarantees, if any, did you get in your contract? Are you going Regular Army or National Guard (and if so what state)? I went through basic and AIT there in '89. The first time I returned there was '03 for a different course. About a month or so ago my wife and I visited some friends down there and I showed her around the post a little.

Don't be too anxious. Basic isn't all that hard. The worst part is the lack of privacy and the fact that you don't get a lot of down time. It'll seem like a long three months. You will get to do some very cool things though.

Best of wishes!

Meh, you'll get used to it, atleast my dad says so. Be careful out there, wherever they send you after the training that is.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Good luck, man. Our country needs more brave guys like you.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you are one of the hundreds of parachuting enthusiasts who bought our "Easy Sky Diving" book, please make the following correction: on page 8, line 7, the words "state zip code" should have read "pull rip cord."

You may not be signing up for that now, but that's where you'll end up going.

Of course he's signing up for it. It's the Army! It's not really a guarantee because we don't know where he is going to be stationed and troop withdrawls forthcoming but it's still an assumption he would have already made.

Hey, good luck man!!! You won't really need luck though. Just keep a positive attitude! I don't know if your recruiter squared you away with an AKO account yet (if you don't know what that is, don't worry about it) but whether you use that or another web-based email service add me to it. steven.l.miller@us.army.mil I'll be happy to help you out with any questions or needs, no rank involved. Seriously, any pay problems or anything else you seem to have trouble getting taken care of let me know and I'll give you any advice or help that I can. Short of sending you large sums of money, of course! ;)

Good job getting promoted in DEP! Best wishes!
