Are there any Jedi Knight mods that improve upon the Singleplayer game?

This can be for Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy.

I recently replayed a lot of games that had modifications done to their singleplayer components. Including:

Planescape: Torment
Unofficial Fan Patch (bug fixes, misc improvements):

Baldur's Gate
BG1TuTu (play Baldur's Gate 1 with the BG2 engine, including higher resolutions):

Total Annihilation
TA Bugfix v1.7 b5

Is there anything like that for JK? For example, was there ever a high resolution texture pack released for the game(s)?

Shred18 was working on something like that.

You'd expect a large JK community to be working on one on a large scale, though. :)

Not quite like that, but SBX changed the single player a bit:
 1. non-major enemies have less health so they die off like in the movies
 2. The lasers all look like in the movies instead of looking like red raindrops
 3. The lightsabre is no longer a toothpick, but a glow saber with better colours
 4. Shadow X messed with some minor detail in the game, so it looks a little better and runs better
 5. adds a double bladed and long sabre
 6. adds like 30 new moves for the sabre
 7. you can kick people and ninja flip, and double force jump
 8. Lightning looks wicked, replacing the white stuff in normal JK
It changes a bunch of other stuff like how super shields work and adds force push and force sabre throw. It's grand.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

If you have the original DooM and DooM 2 games, I suggest you go out and grab zdoom (www.zdoom.org) and zdaemon (www.zdaemon.org) The former enhances graphics, sounds, resolutions and let's you play in a window. The later is the same, but is used for multiplayer, with a server browser and auto-downloadable custom maps.

I think we should do something like that for JK, if possible.

You'd need the source code for JK to do that.

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

If the source code for JK was released.. I'd be all for editing it again. As of right now, no. It's so tired.

Pff. Legacy > ZDoom.

And aye, however close we may be to grasping that elusive source code, LucasArts always shatters our dreams more than pirates with sledgehammers ever could.

Why can't LEC just realize that the Jedi Knight source code has no retail value or any intellectual value in terms of money? JUST GIVE IT UP AND MAKE US SMILE.

Do it for the real JKers, those of 1997.

it ruined the super shield though.... when playing SBX I just avoid it b/c invincibility isn't worth losing all of your force.

They enjoy making us suffer.

It's hard to find a copy of JK now outside of ebay.

It might have something to do with them being afraid that people would use the source code to reverse engineer that Indy game, which would piss Paramount off and get people into trouble.

Actually, they sell it in quite a few Gamestops/EB's. It's not really TOO hard to find, but it IS bargain binned.

Think while it's still legal.

Wasn't LA reselling them as "LucasArts Classics" awhile ago in a poor attempt to squeeze more money out of the golden years of the company?

Yeah, insane, isn't it? It was my only choice for getting a new copy about 4 years ago though. That copy is still virtually brand new since I use the no-cd crack.

CDN$ 62.99 for Dark Forces for PS.

Weird I didn't even know they made it for PS

anyways I picked up JK jewel case for like CDN$12.99 at the former RadioShack.

A roomate of a friend of mine has DF on PS1 and I'm trying to convince him to sell it to me for 10 bucks. I'll say 20 if that doesn't work. I HAVE to have that game.

That becomes rather impossible to do when the CDs are cracked. And besides, copying them still means I need to stick the CD in the drive to play. The no-cd crack removes the issue of copying and using the CDs.

I have DF for the PS. And it was made right before the Dual Shock came out, so it's an FPS with no analog support. Also, did you notice that one snot's review of JK on Amazon? That bas****...

Is there any way to use a no-cd crack with the game and still have music in Singleplayer by somehow copying the CD-Audio tracks to the HD?

Going back to my first question, is there any known method to make an ISO of a legally owned disc and still have the CD-Audio work in Singleplayer? I've tried doing this and mounting it with Deamon but the CD audio never plays.
2005-07-10, 8:34 AM #29
yeah lemme find it...

- If you use a No-CD file then sometimes the games Sound or Music won't play; because the sound and music files are usually on the CD, and because the CD is not in the CD drive then the sound or music files obviously won't work. To fix this problem just simply copy the sound and music files from the games CD and put them on your hard drive in the games directory/folder (where you installed the game). Usually you will just have to copy the sound/music folder to the games directory/folder (where you installed the game) or create a folder that was the same name where the sound/music files were found on the CD unless there is already a folder where sound files are on your hard drive. e.g. Sound, Music etc. Most sound/music files are media related e.g. .mp3 .wav etc. but sometimes also .mix. An example of all this can be The Sims: On the CD there is a folder Called Music, copy the entire Music folder from the CD then paste it into the games directory/folder (where you installed the game) normally its: C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims. Now the music and sound will play even without the CD in the drive! The same applies for in-game movies/videos too, just follow the above process, but this time for the movies and videos.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.
2005-07-10, 9:06 AM #30
I got the videos to work by copying them from
D:\GAMEDATA\RESOURCE\VIDEO
to
C:\GAMES\Jedi Knight\Resource\Video

However, the music isn't working. On CD1, there are 8 tracks on the CD: Track 1, Track 2, etc.

Track 1 contains the actual game data and that is what is shown under 'My Computer'. Tracks 2-8 are the music files (just like regular MP3 files on a music CD) and do not show up when you open your CD/DVD drive in My Computer. They only appear with a program that displays all the CD content (like ISOBuster) or when you use, say, Windows Media Player and select your CD Drive to listen to the tracks.

I'm going to try copying the music files individually, but I doubt it'll work. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

EDIT: It doesn't work. No matter where I put the music files. I'm going to try making an ISO again.
2005-07-10, 9:36 AM #31
Since they're audio tracks, you can't just copy the files -- the game reads the CD drive directly. You can put any audio CD in, and JK will play the audio from that CD.
woot!

the only way to preserve the audio is to make a copy of the entire disc in nero.

making an iso and then burning the image only copies the data tracks.
2005-07-10, 10:05 AM #33
I got it to work! You must have an ISO of at least 700 MB (meaning the audio tracks have been copied as well) and do the following:

1) Install the game from Drive 'D' (default CD/DVD drive)
2) Create a Virtual Drive with a program of your choice (like Daemon Tools)
3) In Windows XP, right-click on My Computer, choose Manage, Disk Management, and by right-clicking on a CD/DVD drive you will be able to select Change and give it a different drive letter.
4) Change the drive letters around so that your Virtual Drive is now 'D'
5) The music should work. Just like Total Annihilation and many other games that use CD-Audio, the game automatically uses the lowest drive letter other than C.

Also make sure that in the Control Panel under Sound and Audio Devices you go to Hardware, and select your virtual drive, choose properties, and under a 2nd properties tab have Digital Audio checked.
