This is a mod that replaces the most important models in the game with higher res ones. For first time ever, this mod is able to do this on the field screen as opposed to only when a character is in battle. It also replaces more models than any previous mods combined.

More info:

A great FFVII soundfont (the best, IMO) that makes the music sound just like in the PSX version: Here WARNING: THIS SOUND MOD IS UNSTABLE!

You will need the following program: LGPTools 1.60. Then just follow readme included with the mod.

They've been working on that for a while, I remember seeing screenshots almost a year ago.

Great stuff, I might just reinstall FFVII! :)

So basically Cloud defeated those red shinra soldiers by stomping on them?

(I told myself I'd scream if it was ff7 related)

Have you seen the original FF VII model? For FFVII that's amazing.

Given the limitations of that game engine, the ugliness of the original model and the fact that this new one is modeled directly after the high polygon version introduced by Square, I'd say it looks pretty darn good. Sure, the arms a bit off being stretched out like that and there are some other minor issues, but...come on.

That sword is the stupidest thing I've ever seen...
2005-07-10, 8:49 PM #9
Ironic.

It's actually the "most stupid" thing you've ever seen.

Stupidest is a fine word. It also has about eight times the results in google than "most stupid".

It's at around three syllables you'll want to start using "most" instead of "est". Like "That sword is the moronicest thing I've ever seen" becomes "most moronic".

It's not a sword... who could even swing that? And making the blade 12 inches wide doesn't make it more effective, anyway. Swords aren't about getting heaps of power behind your slashes.
2005-07-10, 11:32 PM #12
Grammatically, you're supposed to say "most stupid."

Yeah, but you know how language is. If the majority of people are wrong, they automatically become right.

The majority can go lick ***.

I'm going to say "most stupid," and if someone corrects me, I'm just going to break their neck. They're a pain to humanity, and won't be missed.

I am as practical as the next guy.. but comeon.. it's the Buster Sword for crying out loud... I don't care if it's in effective or anything... it is still bad ***... (usualyl I woul dtake the other side.. cause I hate anime... but.. it's the buster sword...

Ooh, you're arguing over swords in a fictional product.

How amusing. Tee hee!

Gunblade > Buster sword.

It may be smaller, but it causes things to explode when it hits.

Outlandishly large swords for the win.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Buster sword is awesome.

That sword that Gats uses in the TV series Berserk is also for the win, because it's freakishly huge, and he's freakishly strong.

[EDIT: I just remembered where I got my name from. <.<]
DO NOT WANT.

Yeesh. I don't point out if someone fails to use the subjunctive, or uses "me" instead of "I" because it's damn irrelevant. And, in those cases, the person is wrong. Here, I'm right.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=stupidest

They say stupidest. I'll go pull out my Webster's Second Edition if I have to, but really, get over it; you're wrong.

And the sword IS moronic. "Fantasy" doesn't mean "completely fails logic" it means "unlike the actual world". Elves are fantasy. Invisible Pink Unicorns are fantasy. Ridiculous swords are idiotic.
2005-07-12, 1:38 AM #24
Also, there's the word 'opinion' and sometimes 'whining over a sword of a fictional product' happens. :)

"An unrealistic or improbable supposition."

What is realistic or probable about man of that size carrying such a large sword?

Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth are the only beings in the game universe who can wield weapons that large/heavy. The reason being that, essentially, all 3 of them were infused with tissue from a super-powerful being. In terms of the game universe, the Buster Sword was designed to chop through heavily armored opponents (such as robots or tanks).

Frankly, if you were strong enough to wield a sword like the Buster Sword as quickly and easily as most people use a switchblade, you'd use one.

EDIT: Cloud is that strong. And at the end of every battle he spins the sword above his head. In addition, from what we've seen in the FF:AC trailer, Cloud also uses the width of the blade as a shield.

I've actually not been twelve for some considerable time, now! :P

(I've found Gargoyles to be mildly diverting, though I suppose no one here would be surprised when I found it unrealistic that the Gargoyles, from the 6th century or so, spoke perfect modern english? :P)

As to the sword; no matter how strong one was, I can't see them lifting that thing, since the centre of gravity is so far away from where it is being supported. (it's like trying to hold a car aloft by holding on to a bumper bar).

I also notice no one has contradicted the "stupidest" thing... Just when I was about to pull out some "superlative" grammar, fools!

(Man, is "cool" really the wrong word for that smily, after that last sentence...)

Cloud might be strong enough to wield the Buster Sword, but what's keeping it from breaking? The actual blade is insanely larger than the handle.
2005-07-13, 5:11 AM #37
Actually, I decided to stick with the original meaning of this thread.

Is getting FF7's PC version worth of these mods?

With swords like claymores and flambérges you're far more likely to kill someone by pulverising their skeleton on impact than making an actual cut, the edge is for cutting less mobile but better defended targets.

The hulk CAN lift a car from the bumper...with ease. He lives in a fantasy universe. Cloud is imbued with the tissue of someone with the power of a GOD. I'm pretty sure you've heard of a strong demi-god before, his name's Hercules. And he lifted a lot more than just a car from the bumper.
