Srebenica

The 10th anniversary of the Bosnian Massacre at Srebenica is tomorrow. I just had a course on International Security and Justice and so we visited The Hague and saw the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former-Yugoslavia and I feel pretty strongly about this topic. The UN's failure to protect the Bosnians from the Serbs, NATO's failure to bring those responsible to justice, and Serbia's unwillingness to cooperate (mainly because the men responsible are in hiding and surrounded by many many bodyguards).

It's sickening that something like this could have happened in a civilized society during my lifetime and that the perpetrators have still not been brought to justice.

If you dont know anything about it, almost every news network has been running coverage lately (unfortunately, all the attention came about 2 weeks after my paper was due on the topic). Basically, 8,000+ Bosnian muslims were murdered by Serbian christians right before the "end" of the Balkan Conflict.

Unfortunately, the UN and NATO are famous for failing in these situations, the very situations they were created to resolve. See: Sudan, Rwanda. It saddens and sickens me, especially that the US doesn't have the balls to intervene when no one else will. So many people's lives lost, so little reasoning behind it all.

I'll remember them in my dreams, as I don't pray very often, that's all I can offer.

I saw a documentary on Srebenica in high school and it had live footage and the UN commander was basically just bull****ted by the Serbians and then by the time he tried to do something, he was powerless to stop it.

Same exact situation I saw on the Hotel Rwanda documentary. It saddened me because the guy wanted to help so badly, but he couldn't do anything. It's these kinds of things that makes me hate the UN.

[EDIT]Yes, I missed Somalia[/EDIT]
