Cats and dogs.

I've had cats, and dogs.

Some are smart, some aren't.

This argument is about as silly as arguing race and intelligence, or sex and intelligence.

It's only well-trained (or just old) dogs that don't do it.

You assume that "i've seen" means "only I've seen," when my statement isn't based on my experiences alone.

I mean, I'm siding against my preferred pet. I must have more reasons than this.

Well, some people do put cats on leashes for some reason.

But maybe, with enough patience and determination, a person can use a cat to walk a blind person. Cats are good at navigation (I think)

I tend to think cats are quite a bit more intellegent than dogs. I've owned a cat my entire life. Currently, my half-lynx Tigger (hehe) is the most intellegent housepet I've ever known.

She can open doors that are shut (she jumps, hangs onto the knob with her paws and swings side to side until the door opens), she finds the easiest way to accomplish any goal. eg: food is on top of cat tree. One leap from the ground WOULD get her there (and though a bit fat, she can and has made this leap before), however, she's found that it's much easier to just make smaller jumps, one from the ground to the dining room table, from the table to the buffet, from the buffet to the landing platform below the top of the tree and from the platform to the top. Much smaller jumps = easiest possible path with least amount of work. Any animal that will go out of its way to be lazy (hehe contradiction) is smarter than another in my book.

However, she does tend to be more clingy than most cats. She constantly meows at me when she's in the same room and I've not stopped to pet her. She follows me into the bathroom to sit on the counter and stare at me if I'm "doing my business". She sleeps next to my head every night and often wakes me up RIGHT before my alarm. Which is another trait that I'm amazed by, since I rarely work the same shift in succession.

Not really. And when I said we wouldn't be where we are today without dogs, I was referring to the past 100,000 years where they helped us hunt and survive. I don't mean anything even remotely modern. Not that we wouldn't have gotten by without them, but it helped - and dogs have evolved in many different ways since the earliest days when we started breeding them. Certainly their survival was ensured...we take care of them so well it's almost parasitic. The only thing they return (these days that is) is companionship and occasional protection. And there are a lot more dogs on the planet since we started breeding them...

I just do not like cats. Never had a bad experience with one, but there's just something about them that freaks the hell out of me. Dogs I'd say give warning before they attack, cats just sit you, then latch onto your eyeballs without warning. The devil they are.

Of course we all like to think our own pet is the smartest, but IMO both have pretty high intelligence.

My dog created a game that he always wants to play with me. It's sweet. I'll say "Go outside?" (which he figured out on his own, when I say that, he can go outside, duh ;)) and he'll run to whatever door is closer and wait for me to open it. I like to point to the door and say "Go out there?" which he'll then respond to with a quick stomp or a increase in "tail" WPM (whips per minute :p).

It's neat, since I never taught him directly. He just kinda picked it up.

Once he's outside, he'll run and find his ball, bone, or stick and proceed to get into a "come and catch me if you can stance" where he gets low on the ground and stares at me. If I get to close, he'll bounce around me dodging my every move as I try and tackle him to the ground (not easy, I struggle for my life just to hold him on the ground, strong as a bull). He knows that he can outrun me and run circles around me, and he boasts it. I'll run at him and he'll run a few metres and go into that same stance again. If I give chase he just guns it, and leaves me in the dust. Great fun and excercise for the both of us. Eventually he calls it quits and lays down to chomp on whatever he wouldn't let me have. ;)

Sometimes though, he goes nuts and starts running at me full on. Its scary because I always think he could break my legs. Get this... He likes to run at you at a ****ing crazy speed and the literally THROW his body at your legs. He kinda turns his body so that his *** bashes into me. Or he;ll run at me and grab my legs with his paws, chest touching my leg, and then play bite my leg, partially taking me to the ground.

What a dog.

My cat is a pacifist....kind of. It refuses to hurt a person, but it will destroy other animals outside. If she doesnt want to be pet she'll just kick her legs at you, and if you continue to pet her she'll just walk away to another room.
Think while it's still legal.

I would like to point out though, that I do like cats a lot, but I prefer dogs. Cats can be fun to play with/fun to watch because of their aerobic skills.

Dogs are pretty smart. I've never seen a police cat or a cat that guides the blind.

Well a police cat would have to be a FREAKING HUGE DEADLY CAT, which it would be illegal to own or possess without a license, and there's only so many of them in the world. Cats that guide the blind...well dogs have a better sense of smell and are smarter. Dogs are just more easily trained.

Note: I'm not saying Cats are smarter.

Dogs are more intelligent in the sense that they can pick up something you try to teach them more easily.

Cats are smarter in the sense that they can figure out stuff on their own.
