Any good free MovieMaker type programmes?

Well hello hello my happy Massassians, yes I have indeed been away a long time, subject to the evil in the UK known as AS Levels. However it's all nearly over and mercifully my time back at Massassi will (hopefully) increase once more.

Now I love making little movies me, and have become rather a dab hand at MovieMaker... the trouble is it's soooo limited and it's Microsoft, which isn't good.

Does anyone know anything a little bit more advanced that is free (yes, I'm feeling pikey) that they could recommend?

It's good to be back by the way :) My appearances may still be limited up until the summer, which for us is just under 2 weeks away! Woo! :)

In terms of actual video editing, there really isn't anything free out there for Windows.

VirtualDub is something you can look at, but that's mostly for recompressing files and such.

If you go the linux route, however, there is Cinelerra, which is a full featured video editing program. It's not perfect, but it at least attempts to match Adobe Premiere.

If you decide to spend the cash, Adobe Premiere is hands down the best I've ever used.

You could try Video Mach, and you don't have to buy it if its for non comercial purposes.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Virtualdub is good if all you need to do is cut, use filters, and compress. Very useful program for what it does.

windows movie maker is alright for simple jobs, but if you need a serious tool, use Premiere.

If you just need it for one thing, get the tryout.

Premiere is definately the best tool on a Windows machine. However, nothing, and I mean nothing, beats Apple's Final Cut Pro, but you have to have a mac for that.

I use final cut pro for free at a local public access station. Not sure if they have anything like that where you live or not though.
