... where you just want to scream and pull all your hair out?

I had one today.

Ah yes, it all started after lunch. In my yearbook class, I am the offical one and only tech guy. Thereby meaning I have about 15 people who know little about the programs we use, to help out. We have a deadline Friday. I've been there everyday after school this week until 4:00 (school lets out at 2:10) working, and only about 4 people have been there. Take a guess what happens today. That's right, frantic scrambling to finish things we should have done all week long, but didn't. So, as the past three deadlines have gone, we end up having to stay after school. And, of course, this means that right at everyone will be there trying to finish. Today, we went from 2:10 to 6:30 before we were done. That's just how BAD it was. I'm talking people who had 20 or more pictures to scan and had the opportunity to do so all week and after school, and didn't. We had about 7 such people, all pressing for the scanner. While I scan and crop pictures apart in Photoshop, I still have another 6 people asking various questions and demanding help. This is great fun. Add in the factor that we have only 7 computers to go 'round. Now lets consider how a computer that had worked all week and during class, suddenly locked up and DIED when I walked out of the room for ONE minute. I mean died as in dead, deceased, no longer working at all. We now have 6 computers. Around 3:30, two more went south and just randomly decided not to do certain things. The situation is rapidly growing worse as we now only have 4 computers for 13 people, all of whom need one "NOW." At this point, I'm loosing patience and trying to contain myself. I almost lost it when one girl started mouthing off and complaining about how important her page was and how she needed a computer right then. I retorted back with how she should have gotten in there during the week, then she wouldn't be here and how everyone else should have done the same. Around 5:00, the editors and myself decided that there was no way in hell we could get everything totally completed, and just started shoving ANYTHING on the pages in any state so they could go out. The idea is to change what needs changing after break. We all left at 6:30. I'm still trying to figure out if I want to scream, beat the living hell out of something, or both.

That was the maddeningly frustrating part of the day. Let's backup to about 1:00 for the annoying and depressing part.

I'm a senior this year. As such, I have a Senior Exit Project to do. It basically involves writting this lovely long paper, creating a visual, and then presenting it. It's a year long project. I did mine on Computer Generated Special Effects and Computer Animation and it's evolution in movies. Now, the teachers who score them, usually look for ANY way possible to NOT do it. Afterall, would you want to read 15 or 20 seven to ten page papers about stuff you probably care nothing about? However, many of the reasons are incredibly DUMB. When an issue is found, the paper is "bounced" back to the english teacher and the student is spoken with. I've had it happen twice with mine. The first time, it was about one of my sources. Apparently they had a problem with my using it alot and wanted proof it really was my work. So I had to turn in all my source cards, all my index cards, all my printed material, all copies of my paper that had been marked on by teachers, all digital copies of it, etc. So I do this, and all is well. Until today. It was bounced back this time, becuase they feel I plagurized. My english teacher is an incredibly cool guy, so we sat down and talked about it. He's read it (my paper) and he had the book I'd used with him. He'd gon through and marked some of the passages in question, which were indeed taken from the book. HOWEVER, I never intentionally meant to plagurize. Due to a misunderstanding early on, I was under the impression that I could do such things as copy directly in some cases as long as it was cited, which I'd done. Unfortunatly, what I'd misunderstood was that those things needed to be in quotes as well. Looking back, it seems painfully obvious. At the time, it wasn't. So, faced with this acqusation, I have two options. One, I write an entirely new paper from scratch on a new topic. I DON'T want to do this. My visual is due Jan. 26. I'd have to start over and work double time to get both done. Two, I appeal the decision. If they rule in my favor, I'm cleared and all is well. If they don't, I'm left with option one. I naturally took option 2. Tomarrow I find out who I need to speak with about it. Seeing as how my english teacher is also an ex-lawyer, I'll ask him what I should say in order to prove that I did this unintentionally and it was the result of a misunderstanding.

Right now, after both of these wonderful events today, I'm sitting here trying to decide exactly how I feel. At times I'm angry, and then seconds later, depressed. Lets add in the stress now too.

It's times like these when I wish I could just press the "pause" button on life.

I've probably completely bored you all now. You can move along. I just needed to get his out. Surprisingly, it has helped. Not much, but a little. *sigh*

Is it wrong that I laughed my *** off at this?

Hey, if I could watch this all happen to another person, I'd laugh too. I can see some humor behind it, but from where I am, it's not been very funny at all.

I feel your pain.

What's really fun, is not doing anything. Yeah, don't do that... I've got about 8 large assignments due, 3 of which I must bring to competitions for BPA...I haven't done ANYTHING! Eh, work is overrated *rolls eyes*

Yeah, that whole plagiarism carp is insane. They don't teach you what it truly means to plagairize until you get to college, and they expect you to adhere the the scrictest of standards regarding plagiarism. Idiots, all of them.

Your day reminds me of my all-time favorite quote:

1. do something to take stress away, for me it was braking rifels, for you? i donno. think a solitude feild for screaming, something. and get rest.

2. realise that you can not be held responsible for the actions of the 'children' your yearbook class. crap happns. dont dwell on the year book over the brake, because during this time you cant work on it en-e-way.

3. prepare to defend your self in said forum of teachers over the brake, and start palmenary work on a new topic for reasearch.

COme one man. You should know that any direct use of a quote from a source has to be in quotes. Paraphrases don't. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] Don't really feel for you there.

I do feel for you on the yearbook deal though, but it really should be expected.

Yeah, hindsight is always 20/20. But the way my teacher stated it, I was under the impression that I was covered by doing citations. I've already started thinking about another topic. Something I can whip up fast without trouble and at least get minimal credit for.

If I could, I'd love to get in the person whose scoring my paper and have them explain to me why I would cite so many times if I plagurized. I mean, seriously, if you're going to do such things, would you cite them or try to hide them?
