I don't trust Dell that easily. They jipped me in which I only got 256MB RAM, and was spose to be 512MB RAM.

Screwers.

Keep the Dell hate crap off this thread, please. There's no need for it.

Dell are known for shipping under-configured machines. I think it's fair to warn anyone who might be considering that deal.

*sigh* Already been over this crap before, so I'm not going to repeat myself.
2005-07-14, 11:41 AM #6
Why can we not hate somthing that is still on the topic?
2005-07-14, 11:41 AM #7
Both my mom and I have Dell laptops. Both of them are configured as they were ordered.

Don't get me wrong, I use a Dell and still like it. Even though they jipped me, it was well-built.

I just don't understand your logic in which we're not spose to hate what you came and tell us, but love it. Even if some of us don't.

My buddy has a Dell laptop and loves it. I'm not saying that Dell's are terrible, and for prebuilt computers they offer awesome prices. I was just mentioning that they have (and probably still do) ship mal-configured systems.

Uh, sorry, but even if they gyp you outta what, 256mb of RAM? I think 750 dollars will cover that. It's a good deal.

Ok if you order a computer and pay for the parts and they arent the parts you ordered, its your own fault for not doing something about it. Because paying for something and getting something else thats not as good sure as hell isnt legal, right?

I agree. It's easy to cover. But my point is they did gyp me.

There's no way they can gyp you out of it. You have an invoice with the entire specs of the machine on it. If you don't realize that you can just call customer service and have it settled, well then that's just sad.

In the dozens of Dell systems I've witnessed being bought, none have ever "not had what they ordered".

And my brother, who used to do support consultation never once had an issue of someone not getting what they ordered unless they replaced a part they were out of stock of with a better one. And he really has no reason to defend them because they eventually laid him off and outsourced his job to India.

Good for you. But I must dissagree in what you say, "There's no way you can get gyped out of it."

Nothing is absolute, not even in bussiness.

Note I bought my system 2 years ago. They probally have a better shipping department now.

Still your fault.

You know, not everyone knows how to check to see if everything's there. I'm not saying it's anybody's fault--just that it's not his. Get off your high horse.

Yes it is entirely his fault that a company did not ship what was purchased.

He might not have known how to check what the hardware was.

Take this for example:

A person buys a car with a V8. Little does he know, the car actually has a V6 in it. Now, the guy knows very little about how cars work, so he never notices it. 5 years later, he sells it, and finds out it didn't have a V8. Oops, out of warranty, your own problem, goodbye.

I must admit, as DJ Yoshi and kyl90 both know, I'm slightly computer ignorant.

It's still as easy (at least if you have DirectX installed) as dxdiag.exe.

And yet, not everyone knows that, believe it or not.

I'm not saying it's hard, but how many people do you know that buy Dells know enough to check? I mean if he had built his own or something, that's one thing, but if you go with a prefab it's usually because you don't know much about computers.
