I received HL2 and I have only recently installed that game and started playing. Even though I have yet to shoot anything, it is still quite fun. However, I never played any other Half Life game and I'm a little lost. Would anyone mind either explaining what happened before HL2 or giving me a link to where I can find out? Thanks.

Oh man, I remember a site that had an awesome timeline that detailed everything, but I'd suggest playing through Half Life on your own. Hell it's gotta be like, five bucks (free if you got HL2 online with the silver package or better).

Okay, it makes a little more sense now. But there is still a huge gap in the storyline between HL and HL2. What is with the police state now? Did the aliens find another way through and invade? I want to know what happened between the two. I take it part of HL2 is figuring that out and figuring out where Gordan was between the two games?

One of the popular theories is the G-man keeps Gordon in stasis until he needs him.. think about the end of HL and the beginning of HL2, then the end of HL2. It makes sense.

I still don't see how a nerd with big glasses and a half-assed goatee makes for a cool hero.

I don't see how he isn't a cool hero, it's a welcome change rather than the minigun toting Duke Nuk'em hero's.
I think he's ****in awesome.

I could post what I think, but it'd be flamebait, so instead I'll say--

Because, it's much better than the stereotypical "have to be muscular with lots of babes hangin off you with a badass cliche line every 2 minutes" kind of hero. I cant stand it. Heroes don't always have to be huge muscular people.

After all, how many gun toting heros can boast that they have their doctorate in theoretical physics from MIT?

If you got the Silver pack, HL was thrown in there.

I'm currently on the last level of HL.. for the 2nd time.. i can't beat the master queen head crab.. its like there is triggers at certian points before it'll move to the next stage and I can't get it to go into the pit and kill it.. i've used almost all my explosives... stupid

And I seem to recall that there is more ammo in the bottom of the pit.

Well, considering that the player is supposed to be Gordan as in they are both one and the same, the fact that he looks like a nerd with big glasses and the fact that most people that play video games are...

I'll say this, the aliens from HL1 are different from the Combine that have taken over earth. Of course though, aliens from HL1 are still in HL2, they just aren't the "main" threat so to speak.

I think Duke Nukem was successful because it made fun with it's main character and made him over-the-top strong in a funny way. I think he meant like main characters such as in Doom3, Far Cry, many others.

That and duke nukem boasted having female strippers. Something we all know that most of the nerdy gamers love.

Doom 3's main character wasn't anything special. Doom's however is exactly the stereotype. And he STILL could kick Gordon's ***. ;)

we don't know that. all we know is that the vortigaunts were freed, but even at the beginning of hl2 you see that some are enslaved by the combine. there's nothing to say that the combine and the xen aliens aren't the same thing.
Moo.
