Devil May Cry on PC?
2005-07-15, 11:10 PM #1
i was wondering if there's any chance to play the PSX game on PC - if there are any WORKING emulators and such. without buying any additional hardware, too (controllers, etc). thanks.

Devil May Cry is such a great game, I already bought all three of them, on all release dates. So I have no need as such of an emulater...but yes there are some. But why not just go ahead and pay CAPCOM?

Plus this might be illeagal material here.

There are emulators that will enable you to play various games for other systems on the pc. To answer your question, yes you can but some of the methods are illegal.

yes there are emulators

they are far from perfect

unless something changed since the last time i messed with them (it's been a while) they don't read games off the game disc

a used PS2 is cheap if you don't have one

also to be legal... you have to have the following:
a legal copy of the game
the system (emulators require the BIOS which is technically only legal to have if you own the hardware)
eat right, exercise, die anyway

I use a PSX emulator, and it runs them.

That's about it. The sound and video is insanely slow no matter what video options I use. However, you need to download the bios, which is illegal iirc.

I've succeeded in getting PSX emulators work quite fine.

As for PS2 ones... I don't even know if there's any good ones, none of them seem to work past those silly PS2 demos.

Devil May Cry works on the PCSX2 emulator now, but very slowly. You will not be able to play the game at reasonable speeds for a while, but the emulator is getting there (even FFX goes ingame now).

Playstation 1 emulation is solid right now. Pete's OpenGL plugins and ePSXe run any game well (just like on an original console) assuming you have the right settings and an ok PC.

I run almost any game with full settings at 60 FPS:

Radeon 9700 Pro
Athlon XP 1800
512 DDR Ram

That includes: FFVII, FFIX (needs old 1.5.2. version of ePSXe), Xenogears, Gran Turismo, etc.

I use TV Out to play these games on my TV. This looks better than using a PS1/PS2 because with a good graphics plugin the image is less blurry, the are fewer jaggies at higher resolutions and with texture filtering games don't look so pixelatic. And I just love save states...
