Questions about MotS
2005-07-16, 4:21 PM #1
I have never played MotS through, mainly because i didn't find it all that intriguing, my questions are as follows:

1.) What happens to Mara Jade?

2.) What happens to Jan Ors?

3.) What happens to Kyle Katarn?

Thank You
I <3 Massassi

1. Mara is Kyle's trainee at the beginning. They go on seperate missions. Mara loses contact with Kyle.

2. Jan isn't involved.

3. Kyle goes to investigate a Sith Temple and falls to the dark side. As Mara, you go to rescue him and bring him back to the light side.

MotS on the whole isnt as good as JK, but there are some interesting little concepts and puzzles, and some well designed MP levels that blow the JK MP levels clear out of the water.

Yeah, MotS MP is WAAAY better then JKs. The levels are amazing.

Technically, it's still better than JK. Also, most of the excellent SP levels are for it.

Also, the mots engine has been upgraded from jk, in how there is coloured lighting and the cog language has been extended.

Questions have been answered, so to make this legit...Jan is seperated from Kyle at the time when he practices with Mara. She went on some kind of mission...it's in the articles from Wizards of the Coast that DSettahr posted a few weeks ago.

Yea, it often surprises me how few people play MotS... I suppose it may have something to do with the fact that you can't "jump across the water" in MotS, and the poor Low-Res sounds (Although there were MotS Hi-Res sounds at the old SBX site, the address of which I've forgotten, but I have somewhere, if anyone wants to host the files)
2005-07-17, 6:12 AM #9
Yes, I would want to host the files! (Although I only have freewebs.)

The old sbx site is here (but it looks to be down).

MotS is great... many new powers. Poor storyline, but great SP and especially MP levels!

The only thing that DOES suck, is the fact that you cannot choose certain combinations of Force Powers, your options are somewhat limited :(

I love SBX for MotS... and Manowars 3

anyone up for a game?

JK's singleplayer campaign was better than MotS', but everything else about MotS totally beats JK in my opinion.

thanks for the answers, a friend of mine told me, who obviously had no idea what he was talking about, that jan dies while trying to save kyle, and that mara falls to the darkside once again

i sort of thought MotS singleplayer was boring, so i never got the patience to finish it. spent a HELL OF A GOOD TIME playing Piggot's levels, though.

Me too. His levels by far exceeded the quality of any of the single player levels that came with the game in my opinion.

Agreed. But it's not like his were the only ones, I loved the Battle of Toprawa trilogy along with Aliens: Terror on Sigma 51.

There were many quality SP levels made for MotS, but unfortunately MP never quite caught on.

I liked the twist that MotS's SP levels took on. The base landing, the pirates, the prison, the ship raid, and the temple were all memorable. I liked the level design to be more varied and more interesting too because I felt that JK was a bunch of Nar, Imperial Base, and Temple levels thrown around. Remember that MotS was an expansion: it isn't going to be another JK, but more like JK++. I liked MotS more than I liked JO or JA.

MP rocked. Class based DM? w00t.

Mods? EVEN BETTER.

SBX for MOTS was so incredibly awesome on Cloud City map where luke gets his hand chopped off :P

Jan dies in Jedi Knight if Kyle falls to the Dark Side.

It was fairly big on the Zone for a while. There was a time when you had no trouble finding MotS MP games on the Zone at all.

Minor fix. She does die none-the-less.

Because JO *assumes* Kyle stuck to the light path. Kind of cheap, if you ask me, but then Raven was too much of a pansy to bother taking the time to implement light/dark paths again. Would have made the game much more interesting, but the initiative (money) just wasn't there.

It's another coincidental reason Jan wasn't in MotS.

But when you go to the Dark Side in JK, Kyle becomes the new Emperor. MotS must assume that Kyle stuck to the light side because he's still fighting with the New Republic.

what if they made new JKII and JKIII's where kyle followed the dark path. It's dumb but it's more JK and it's money for them I guess.

No, it was because, officially, kyle went light in JK. Other pieces of the EU had Kyle show up after the events of Jedi Knight, as if he had chosen the light ending. Therefore, Raven couldn't have done a light/dark thing without contradicting official canon.

So, Kyle is light, and Jan isn't dead.
Moo.

Yes, you seem to be right. Not too long ago you just got the "This site is defaced!" in big red letters from the worm, but now it's working.

Please Massassi, give levels reviews again, it will encourage new and more levels!!! It can be for JO/JA/JK/MotS/whatever! ;)

I would love to be a professional level/mod reviewer, if Massassi Reviews is re-implemented.

Too bad MotS isn't easier to get ahold of(Like JK, which is at Best Buy, Target, ect.).
2005-07-18, 6:56 AM #37
wow memories.. I remember Ortheza's levels.. they were great!

I lost my JK disc 2 so I've never been able to install MotS since the first time I bought JK.

Too bad TACC has not had a new review for the past few years--- literally. They mirror the occasional new map that comes out, and the forums are somewhat active but thats it. Also, their current SOTW has been featured for the past 2 years, maybe longer.

I'm a former taccer, so I still love the place, and I remember how it was back in the heyday of JK editing.
