Nintendo DS is made for FPS's!

Dang! I picked one up on friday along with Super Mario 64 DS (drool), and Goldeneye: Rogue Agent (good, but with many flaws,) and I'm loving this little beast. I just need a flashcart so I can run LinuxDS, and some NES and SNES emulators.

Using the thumb strap and touchscreen you get fluid mouse like movement which kicks ***! Not to mention Goldeneye runs at a solid 60FPS (or 30, seems too smooth to be 30 though.)

I can't wait until some really sweet FPS's come out for the DS. Metroid being one of them. I was thinking of getting Splinter Cell, but I already own it for PC, and the AI would be removed from the game no doubt, thus removing all the fun.

Sounds awesome, but I must say I'm totally out of it in regards to all the new consoles/mini-gamepad-thinga-ma-bobbers coming out lately. I didn't even know what a PSP was until a couple of weeks ago. :(

Haha.

Quake and Quake II need to be made for the DS. NOW. Mmm... Mobile Quake...

Couldn't the PSP do better with FPS, with the better graphics and all?

Better graphics doesn't mean the gameplay is better.

I wish it had Deus Ex...

All the augs and inventory / weapon belt on the bottom screen, and the action on the top one. Oh boy...

The PSP doesn't have the touch pad with pen though, which helps a lot in fps games.

Naa, IMO, the pen sucks for FPS's. It's good for some things, but the thumb strap gives you 10x the control plus you can use the other 5 buttons (d-pad usually is xyab for lefties) you can't use while holding the pen

Goldeneye had this problem... While holding the pen, you couldn't fire both you weapons.

Graphically, seeing n64 caliber and higher graphics on a tiny screen is enough for me. Obviously PSP pwns the DS by 10 folds in graphic fidelity.

No, instead it has an analog stick which works just like the N64 controller, making it perfect for Goldeneye, when the N64 emulator is finished.

Geesh, I hated the controls in Goldeneye for N64. In fact, I haven't enjoyed even one FPS on a console ever simply because the controls are completely whacked. Everything feels so sluggish compared to a mouse. I played the Metroid demo on the DS in Best Buy and the controls for that, although a little strange, were definitely better thany any thumb/joystick for FPS.

I used the C buttons to aim in Goldeneye most of the time so that I could keep moving.
That painting was a gift, Todd. I'm taking it with me.

Psh, the turok control method is the best.

Movement via C buttons (up back strafe left and right), switch weapons with A and B, fire with Z, and in 007, zoom with R. That leaves the analog stick for aiming.

Loved it, it was great.

brian, it wasnt that bad, but yes FPS do suck without a keyboard and mouse. goldeneye/perfect dark for the N64 were the only FPS that i could handle on a console.

ok and i guess turok was alright too.

oh, and anyone else do the c button + crouch to stay crouched so people had to take the time to aim at you or they couldnt shoot? haha it took my friends like 3 months to figure out what i was doing.

Haha yep that was the best. Plus you could move faster if you strafed and ran forward at the same time.

??? You can configure Goldeneye 64 to Turok style controls. I'm running a emulator with a plugin which allowing REAL mouse aiming in Goldeneye 64. Sweeeeet it is.
