Beauty and the Beast DVD (Platinum Edition)

First, and foremost, I'd like to know if any of you here have the Platinum Edition DVD of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

if you do, I'd appreciate it if you would be able to either describe the case, post a picture of the inside of the case, or at least tell me if your's matches the description following:

Like most 2-Disc DVD's, all of Disney's that I have encountered have the forms and such inside the dvd, on the left-front, like all other DVD's, with one dvd on a special holder that moves, and is attached to the spine, covering the second DVD located on the right side of the inside of the case (where they are in all other DVD cases), however, on the copy of Beauty and the Beast my fiance' bought, the inserts are in the middle (not attached) while one DVD is on the right side of the case, and the other is on the left side, and that just doesn't seem right to me.

Now...

When we played the movie on her DVD player, it would play one part, then, just skip ahead approximately 1 minute, I figured it was likely the DVD player, since she had watched it the day before, on a different DVD, and didn't have the same problem. So I put the DVD in her computer, and it brought up the Disney DVD player they have, but when it laoded, it asked for me to insert a DVD into the disc drive, and then I tried another movie, and it worked, then I tried the second BatB disc, and it too, didn't work (but this time I didn't get the message)

I put it in her PS2, and it worked fine, but the picture seems a bit messed up, but that could easily be a connection problem, haven't tested that too extremely yet, but I did check to make sure all the connections were fine.

Needless to say, I'm kind of wondering if the DVD might be counterfeit.

She bought it off eBay, from a user claiming it was a new DVD (and had a great Feedback score), WHen she got the DVD, she said it seemed like it had been shrink-wrapped by an 'amateur' rather than professional, and the bottom of the shrink-wrapping wasn't closed very well... but we figured with the weather being incredibly hot, that could have easily been a heat-related issue, since it was sent via regular mail.

Everything else seems normal... the labeling on the discs themselves are perfect, and are the exact same texture as all the other Disney DVD's, the DVD Case insert is perfect, all the inserts seemed to be there (and also on the usual materials, and there was more than just a single insert, there was a folded 'sheet' to outline what signs to look for when playing the games, and a quad-folded sheet outlining the different special features on the second disc as well as the stuff on the first disc), and, like so many other DVDs, the bottom side of the CD is a goldish color, and was perfect, not a scratch or any marks at all.

So, I'm here, asking for your assistance. To please tell me what your opinion is on this, and whether or not you think it's counterfeit.

Thanks.

IMO, the PS2 is a s***ty dvd player, as are the proprietary software players that come on DVDs for use on the PC. Also, some discs have trouble playing on a particular brand of DVd player.

I would test it with VLC on the computer, and on a decent regular standalone dvd player as well (any brand besides a ps2 should work).

I don't think its counterfeit, as most bootlegs are burned on home computers and are not normally made to look like real copies, but rather look obviously bootlegged.
The professional bootlegs are sold on the streets, and sometimes do have reproductions of the dvd packaging included with them. . If it is a Region 0 or All-region disc it IS a bootleg.

In regards to the shrink wrapping, some stores shrink-wrap their own discs, and maybe the packaging guy f***ed up, or maybe the previous owner tried to wrap it himself.

I think you got a defective disc if it won't play right on anything. The disc is gold colored b/c its a dual layer disc, single layer discs are silver colored, so there's nothing suspicious about that.

My copy from when Disney was selling it in stores is like you describe the other Disney DVD's with ad's on right - one disk on center, and other on right.

Pictures!

Your skipping problem would most likely be the dvd, maybe there's dust or smudges that didn't catch your eye. Did you also check if the DVD is in the right region (US - Region 1)? This would most likely end up with a borked picture (pinkish squares).

The disc looked perfect (in a well-lit rooom) It is a Region 1 disc. And the picture didnt have pinkish squares or anything... it was just kind of like it wasn't being 'drawn' on the screen quite right, you could still see the movie quite well, but all the edges were kind of bouncy and had alternating lines through them... it wasn't a bad problem, and the only thing that had that problem was the PS2, so I'm not worried about that.

Anyway, thank you all for your assistance.
