In need of a compression thing...

I need to compress a large mass of files down to several archives of a specified size each (multi-volume archive). I have a number of programs that can do this. *However*, I can't seem to find one that will let me add to such a set of archives once I've already created them, which is critical to what I'm trying to do right now (large file backup with limited HD space). I basically need to be able to do this in increments. WinRAR won't do this, WinZip I can't even get to do anything close to this, and ALZip just doesn't follow instructions when I tell it to do this. :(

He used a double negative doesn't that cancel out to a yes, or am I mistaken?

Actually, it was a tripple negative.

I'm trying it, but it's slow, so I don't (yet) know if it'll work for this.

Ugh, there seems to be a recurring theme with file compressors that doesn't allow adding files to multi-volume archives. I've tried so many now it isn't funny.

If all you are looking to do is keep the whole thing as one set, then why not try this:

Add the entire set to a NEW archive, and add the one file you wish to add to the archive also. Hell, you might get a few extra bytes of compression out of the already compressed stuff too. This might be an okay idea if you don't plan on using the archive much.

It's going to span across multiple CDs. My last resort is probably going to be manually making multiple archives. Which will undoubtedly suck. I can't do the entire set at once because of temporary storage limitations. If I could fit everything in one spot, I wouldn't need it compressed in the first place.
