Free MPEG Software? (For New Massassi Weekly Video Short)

Is there any free ones out there that can merge/crop mpeg files, add music, and text? Armed with a new Sony cybershot and a new idea for a weekly short video clip, exclusivly for Massassi each week, I have come up with: Yoda Wastes 10 Seconds of Your Time.

Just change your title to "Yoda Wasted" and I'll watch it.

You can use Windows Movie Maker (comes with XP; don't know about others) to add sound, and then, having saved it as a .WMV, you can merge it using a variety of free tools typically found at download.com

If you do this method, on the "Movie Settings" page when saving the video, do the following:

Click Show More Choices, then click other settings, then on the drop down box, select DV-AVI.

This will create a VERY LARGE AVI file, which is far superior to that WMV video format. Then you can take this large AVI file and compress it to nearly any other video format, or in a different AVI codec such as DIVX. You can compress to a different AVI codec using VirtualDUB, a free tool.
