I should graduate from high school more often...
2004-05-16, 5:09 AM #1
Well, Friday night, I graduated from high school, and I feel GREAT. It feels so good to be free of all classes, homework, annoying teachers, annoying people, etc.

And project graduation was equally GREAT. I got a Game Boy Advance SP, a NICE digital camera, a blue chanelle afghan, and at least 500 bucks from family, friends, teachers, etc.

To make this thread worthwhile, if you're graduating, or graduated recently from high school, post your plans for the future.

I'm going to college for four years, where I'll major in marketing, and minor in small business. I hope to own my own record company. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Heh, my graduation was nothing special. "woo, I passed the tests" was about it, though I wasn't really worried. I'm more eager to -return- to school after this in-between year now. =P

Friday was my last day of classes, but I have finals the next three days and then we graduate next Sunday. It doesn't feel different or special at all - I'm just done with one school and moving to the next. I don't really get why everyone makes such a big deal about graduating - an insane amount of kids graduate from high school every single year.

I'm graduating sometime early June...I don't even know the exact date. IMO, high school graduation isn't a big deal. I mean, you graduate, and all you have is a high school diploma. If you have one, you can go on to college, if you don't have one, you're stuck at a factory your whole life. But until you go to college you're not going to do much these days.

As for my plans, I'm working lots this summer and then going to school next year at UW Madison.

I'm graduating Friday, but I'm done with classes and it feels goooood.

Next year I'm going to Rose-Hulman, (hopefully) majoring in physics and computer science.

I'm grauduating June 5th, I think. After that I'll be going to Villanova in August for Mechanical Engineering. I'll probably try for a Masters.

My actual leaving time is soon. What I'll get? About £150 if everything goes to plan and I get 8 As or so. Although I'm not leaving my school for another two years, since I'm staying on for A-Levels.

My last day of classes was Tuesday, and I'm graduating next weekend. I've gotten about $25 so far. This summer I'm gonna work at my old elementary school and hopefully get enough money with what I earned last summer to buy myself a nice laptop to use at Georgia Tech.

Yeah, 50 bucks, but it was the faculty as a whole. I go to a tiny school, so everyone is really close. We only had 21 graduates. What's cool about that though, is that I can say I was 15th in my class, and people automatically assume 7 out of 150+, so it makes me look really smart. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

btw today is 1st year after gradulation in highschool.... and heh i and 10 other kids got booted off the gradulation because of drinking on senior trip, but then again `11 out of 32 kids is alots in my hometown of 600 peoples :P

Up here in Norway, high school graduates have this crazy ritual of dressing up in red suits for 17 days and doing crazy things like:

* Running around in town naked
* Camping and having breakfast in roundabouts
* Spraying people with water guns
* Drinking a lot of beer at once
* Screaming
* Walking around with a fish on a leash (or a vaccuum cleaner)
* Drinking a lot of beer while in a phone booth
* Hanging the red suit in the flag pole and run naked around it
* Jump up and down 20 times at a crossing in front of a bus
* Crawl through the back seat of a car waiting for the traffic light to turn green

Hey, at least can't say we're not having fun. Oh, and for each crazy thing you do, you get to hang a small item in the cap which comes with the red suit. The graduate with the most items gets fame and glory. I think there are about 150 things on the "crazy things to do" list in Bergen. You can read it here (in Norwegian though, but it should give you an idea)

I won't be graduating for another 5 years or so. It'll take me about two years to get my GE classes out of the way before I can consider going to the Arts Institute to try to get a BA degree in Game Art and Design which would take about 3 years. With the amount of GE courses I have to complete, I'll probably get a graduation at least for acquiring credits from those classes before I transfer over to AI. That's still a long way off from now [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

BTW... for my HS graduation... all I got was a copy of JO.

How does the American school system work?

What do you need to graduate and what happens if you don't? Do you just not get any qualifications or do you have to retake the year?

Also, I take it compulsory schooling is up to the age of 18?

I don't really know. They just gave me the diploma. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Just kidding. To graduate, at least in Kentucky, you need to pass all your classes from 9th grade to 12th grade. Passing involves getting more than a grade of 69/100 in your classes.

If you don't graduate, you have to retake the entire school year over. In certain situations, however, certain classes are offered during the summer to ensure graduation for certain students.

For your last question, the age of the average senior is 17-18. I turn 18 in two days. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Jeez. I use too many smilies.

Ahah. How many classes do you take, and do you choose them?
Also, is getting 69/100 particularly difficult? Is it the equivilant of a C grade or what?

Class of 2000! Is where it's at.

Mort-Hog: That's for one particular state. In California, all graduates must pass a competency test at the end of the year. Don't pass, don't graduate...ideally that's the case. But I'm sure some softy of a teacher will allow them to graduate. When I graduated H.S. it was a min GPA of 1.5. I believe it has been raised to a 2.0 (C avg)

Actually, I just think my state's weird. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]
In response to your other question, in my state, a score of:
0-69 constitutes an F, or, failing grade
70-77 constitutes a D
78-86 constitutes a C
87-93 constitutes a B
94+ constitutes an A

I think.
