What a game. Although, maybe it was just my difficulty setting, but it didn't really start to get REALLY hard until I started running out of bullets on Xen. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Main gripe right now: surely they could have thought up a meaner looking boss. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Yeah, probably. What difficulty did you beat it on? Cuz Hard mode is where it's at [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Don't have a clue. I started it like a year ago, and just picked up the game again a few days ago.

Yeah, the game overall was kindof repetative and sometimes outright annoying. That's probably why I quit playing for a while.

What's even sadder then Corection just beating HL is that I have never played this revered FPS ever in my life....

You should definately give it a try. Most people like it, although some people do hate it.

I don't really hate it, but it was very repetative. I don't really see what is so goog about it... the immersion factor was good though.

Didn't you beat it (or some other boss) with ONLY the wrench too?

Xen and everything after (including the ending) sucks, but everything that comes before you get to Xen is pure FPS gold.

The last boss looks like a cuddle toy and the ending sucked badly.
2004-05-18, 5:05 PM #19
Indeed, I was disappointed with the ending as well.

I enjoy using the jump-crater things to jump up into the baby's head and bash it with the crowbar. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Those green teleporter balls that it shoots sometimes are annoying as hell, though.

I've found you can neutralize the tleporters with that bee-gun thing. Very handy. I still haven't beaten it yet, though [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

If you have Opposing Force and/or Blue Shift, I suggest trying those out now that you have beaten HL. Those gitantic Spider Horse things in the dark scared the crap out of me, more than anything in HL.

Actually, maybe the Gigantar monster chasing me through the parking garage scared me a bit more... calling an airstrike on him just before he climbs up to kill me.

Yeah, Half-Life's SP was only good up to the Xen part. The jumping puzzles were such a pain. The final boss is such a tedious task to defeat because you have to time practically every mode in order to beat him. I thought the ending was a slight let down at first but the ending is a lot more satisfying if you were paying attention to the Gman since the beginning of the game. All that foreshadowing all over the place made the ending make much more sense. We'll just have to see how Half-Life 2 starts off to see what kind of impact the ending had for the game's continuing story.

If you don't have it, I do suggest getting Opposing Force if you don't have it. It is a great add-on that is actually more fun that Half-Life.

BTW, what ending did you pick? Choosing "no" sure did give you one anti-climatic, yet funny, ending.

I was sad that "no" didn't give you a chance to NOT make it an ending. I coulda taken them down.

...well, ok, maybe not >.>

Yeah, I didn't like steam at first, but now that they're smoothed out the majority of the bugs, its definitly an excellent tool.
2004-05-19, 4:44 PM #35
Steam's server browser is buggy, at best, bolstered only by the sheer luck that in DoD and CS there are literally THOUSANDS of servers. And you get 20 results. I'm still trying to figure that one out. But yah, Steam's buddy system's defunct, it continuously deletes and redownloads random caches because they didn't check some kind of cache-check, and etc etc. It sucks...hard.

No one could win that final battle without cheating. Gordon is left with no weapons and he is not capable of kicking or punching... Plus those alien grunts have bee launcers that would track you down and kill you eventually.
