Anyone else think that's a liiittle excessive...?

At say around 5kb per email, that's 200,000,000 spam emails before your inbox fills up. I get probably around 20 a day, so it'd take 27,397 years of spam before storage would become an issue.

Looks like someone misplaced the decimal point... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Also, yahoo is increasing their storage limit to 100 megs. Not that much compared to Gmail, but still ought to hold people over until Gmail goes public...

A terabyte for e-mail? Come on.

Most people can't afford (much less get) terabyte hard drives yet for their personal computers, and here google is pissing it away on e-mail.

I think the whole idea is they are "overselling" in terms of email space. They assume most people won't use more than 15-20MB, so they can theoretically OFFER as much as they want. Of course, this can be dangerous, because what if you miscalculate and suddenly the entire email system is full. No email, in or out.

I'm guessing that they use some kind of compression. Since email is mostly text, I bet they can compress it quite a bit, so it really doesnt take up 1 gig of storage space.

No one can get a terabyte harddrive... the largest harddrive in existence is like 400 megs... I suppose you could get 4 250 gb harddrives and use a RAID... but its still techincally 4 drives.

I just signed up for spymac.com mail. You get a gig, too. I'm not sure if it's good, though, yet. Seemed kind of slow, actually.

I suppose that was true in 1994, but not now. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I'll assume you meant GB....

Yeah, looks like most of the people responding to this thread didn't. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Pretty funny. I wonder how many people are (or were) taking advantage of it.
