Harper told three friends he was sitting with that he was going to test whether the net would hold his weight -- and then he jumped, police said.

And if the net COULDN'T support his wieght, then what? Did he think of the people below him he would be landing on? Idiot.

No offense but who wouldn't want to jump onto a huge net: looks fun. 40ft into a safety net... Maybe not while the game was on though.
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.
2005-08-10, 3:29 PM #15
Well, yeah. I'd do something like that if the net was set up to catch people, and I was supposed to jump into in.

I'm sure it looked real fun, but considering where he jumped from, and his inebriated state, he's lucky as hell he didn't miss, and that it held.

He's also being charged with reckless endangerment since, besides himself, he could have killed the ump, the catcher ,and the batter if it broke, or audience members if he missed.

That net starts behind the catcher and stuff, so he really only endagered other people attending the game.

I was thinking it would've been a bit too far to fall if it started above the umpire...

Yeah I was thinking maybe angle, but now that you point it out that's way too far.

Anyway- hes got a court date in early september. Being charged with 4 things I think. The max he can get is 1 year in prison.

I thought the net was there so people could jump into it.
2005-08-10, 7:52 PM #29
Yes let's waste taxpayers' money on a guy who JUMPED OFF A FORTY FOOT PLATFORM. I don't care what he endangered or anything--nothing happened. Fine him, and move on. (just ranting as they tend to actually send these guys into prison :\)

Maybe, just maybe, my post wasn't an attempt to entertain your need for a reply that was refreshing and wity!? Good lord, the concept is unbearably possible!
Yeah no doubt the guy was hammered.
The article said the guy was 18, so they should be able to nail him with drinking under age, and why IS that net there? I never understood that.

But regardless, way to follow your drunken dreams...or...something.
I had a blog. It sucked.

It's there to catch foul balls that get popped up and behind the batter.
