Having your tonsils out is no fun

Yesterday I had a tonsilectomy. Apparently my tonsils were heavily infected, even though I had no pain in my throat or anything. But for the past several years I suffered from an infectious smelling bad breath. The doctors before thought it had something to do with my sinuses and we tried just about everything they could think of short of surgery to correct it with no luck. So a week ago I go into an ear/nose/throat specialist over here in Utah where I currently live, and it took him about 2 minutes to decide that it was probably my tonsils that were causing it. So a week later I get my tonsils taken out (which was yesterday). The doctor said they were about the most infected set of tonsils he'd ever seen in his entire career. Apparently had to remove something on the roof of the back of my mouth too, but I can't remember what it was called (I was even more drugged up when they told me then now). Anyway, so now I'm just enjoying the pain of a terrible sore throat and not being able to eat anything with a consistency thicker then pudding.

So, what kinds of surgery have you guys had over the last little while.

p.s. I apologize if I'm kinda rambling here. I'm still on several medications that are keeping me pretty drugged up.
Life is beautiful.

Toenail removal a week ago, haha. It's sad that such a small thing is one of the more painful "surgeries" because local anesthetic into toes and fingers hurts so frickin much.

They heal nice and fast though. Has been completely pain free for the past 3 or 4 days.

Ear surgery. When I was younger, I had a hard time hearing people and understanding things. I often got ear aches and it was painful. My mother ignored it (and keep in mind this happened over the course of since I was 3...at age 7 I finally got the surgery) until one day, my mother noticed blood dripping from my ear. I didn't feel anything, no pain or anything. Doctor said I got so used to the pain.

I got tubes put into my ears to expand the canals and enhance my hearing. My hearing is actually quite supurb now...I can hear a heartbeat in a really really quiet room with good acustics. This however is not always a good thing. I always have this high pitched ringing in my ears, unless I practice Tai Chi (a moving meditation).

And also I hear...strange things at night. o.O

I had my wisdom teeth removed about a year ago, which isn't that bad until you realize that I had 3 extra wisdom teeth due to genetic defect. They basically had to break them inside of my mouth and then pull each piece out seperately. Yeah, that sucked.

I have had inflamed tonsils for a long time, but I've visited a doctor twice and they say it's no need to worry. I'm not so sure about that, because they're the size of big marbles now, and although they don't hurt, food is constantly getting stuck back there causing bad breath. I might just go get them removed anyway, so I don't have to worry about it later.

I had a tonsilectomy at age 5, an appendectomy at 14 and my wisdom teeth out at 19. This makes me happy, because all the main removable parts are gone from me so I don't have to worry about it in the future.

Never had surgery. I had a tonsil infection a couple of years back. It got all swollen up and it hurt really bad to swallow. I got penicillin and it cleared up in a couple of days. When I had mono, my tonsils got swollen up pretty bad and it sucked pretty bad. Couldn't eat much and only massive amounts of Ibuprofen made it bearible to eat.

Don't forget arms and legs are removable as well.

I've been lucky so far and haven't had to have my tonsils taken out nor my wisdom teeth. Though if I had my tonsils taken out, I probably wouldn't snore so bad.

You had local? Man they konked me right out. I go into freaky dreamless sleep and awake what amounted to mere moments passing in horrific pain. But, to this day, I've never had strep throat again. Before, I'd get strep like clockwork.

I had my tonsils taken out when I was 2 or 3. They didn't have child medication on hand, so they gave me adult medication, which through me into some type of medicated rage, in which I ran throughout the hospital hysterically screaming for my mother... of course I don't remember this, but this is what my mom told me. Also, the day after I got out I made my parents take me to McDonalds and I ate a whole Hamburger!! Hahahaha.

Tonsilectomy, at 5.

Vomiting blood = no fun. They gave me ice-cream but it tasted so horrible when my entire mouth was caked with dried blood/vomit. Thus my sister always enjoyed it when my dad brought her to visit, since I'd save all my ice-cream for her.

My anaesthetic trip/dream when they gassed me up was a slowly rotating, inwards-facing helix or torus composed of Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Men, of which I was one.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I once had an ingrown toenail removed. And yes, getting shots in your toes hurts like hell. I had to have 3 shots before they could get the nail fixed, and even with the numbness from the first shot I felt all of them. What the doc did was jam something that looked like a miniture pair of wire cutters UNDER my nail and cut backwards to where it grows. He then ripped the ingrown piece out and cleaned out the infection with something that burned like cheap vodka (even with the numbness).

I got some areas under my tongue and sides, near the back of my mouth cauterized with a laser to remove oral displascia that cropped up there. Like a very early form of cancer, a precurser really, just white, abornamlly fast dying tissue. Totally painless surgery, but the taste is pretty aweful. Sore for a few days, over the counter painkillers worked well.
