America's Army.... REQUEST DENIED
2004-05-19, 7:07 PM #1
I just downloaded America's Army because I wanted a new FPS and hey... it's free.

Something about it being free and distributed by the US Government just is weird to me, I havent had to go on social security or anything so I'm not used to government handouts. Anyways, I was reading the EULA and here's some really neato tidbits I found in it:

Quote:
In particular, but without limitation, neither the Software nor any underlying information or technology may be downloaded, used or otherwise exported or re-exported (i) into (or to a national or resident of) Cuba, Haiti, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia, North Korea, Iran, Syria and any other country to which the United States has embargoed goods or (ii) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Commerce Department's Table of Deny Orders.

So... the US Government doesnt want its enemies to enjoy playing a game about the US Armed Forces it seems.

The original and perhaps still is the purpose is to discover who may be good for future troops. They don't want to give enemy countires any help with their armed forces.

The point is that it's a game and the *******s shouldn't be able to force us to play by their rules. God dammit, where are the cheat codes? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

The training part of the game is a brilliant idea. It keeps all the n00bs who don't know how to play OUT of live games. I'd much rather have 30 competent teammates than 60 newbies who don't know how to reload their gun.

It really is sad if you can't even complete the training.

I used to play the game (should I redownload it?), how is the game now? The game was only fun when you found people working together. This was why I liked the bridge level so much, that level forced people to work together in order to win.

I think that tidbit is in most EULA's for games. I've seen it before, it's not only in the government programs.

Is it possible to download a copy of the game that ISNT corrupted? I redownloaded it twice now, both times from different sites, and the only difference was the 2nd time it unipped the game for 10 minutes before it gave me some error message saying some dumbcrap file was supposed to be something else, and the file transfer must have been corrupted... so stupid.

It's trade regulations. NO export is allowed to those countries from the US.

It's a way to reach out to other people, and get them interested in what it all has to offer.. It has nothing to do with tring to prepare you for war, that's what boot camp and all that is for, atleast the physical stages. Which, I don't think most people are prepared for war.
